It also seems that the old 100mm macro is out of stock
Also available at http://www.uniquephoto.com
It would be VERY interesting to see a comparison with the previous 100mm f2.8 Macro in terms of image quality, and how good are the benefits of the new IS system in a real world macro situation.
It’s clear that “IS” would help 100mm “normal” shoots, but how really good is for macro shoots where the focusing distance is critical ?
And what about the AF speed? improved too?
Also, the “L” is supposed to be weather sealed, isn’t it? Would be good to know more about it.
Is the whole package worth the extra $400?
Tallyn’s has had these in stock since Monday, mine just arrived from them via UPS today. Can’t wait to go play with it now! very excited about having this lens now :) (I did previously own the old 100 macro)
Sometimes it appears as “in stock” at Amazon (any interested would need to check it dayly because it runs out of stock very fast)
Or you can buy it at 3rd party there too, but watch where you are buying with care.
Also at ArlingtonCamera.com
I am interested in how good it is, however, I really want a longer focal length. My TS-E 90 makes a great macro at that focal length, and I’m not into it enough to need IS.
The MFT chart looks awesome

18-135 is also in Stock at B&H, seems they still don’t offer a kit with it! Lame!
I think I should get this for some of my macro stock shots. :)

I have one… bought it two days ago from my local retailer.
Is the IS viable at macro distances? I really think so. I got some great shots at 1/60 (where on a crop camera, 1/60 would be 1 stop or so from the 1/160 that would be in the ‘no shake’ zone).
The photos I’ve taken so far are here:

Is the bokeh really good? The few shots I’ve taken so far seem to indicate that it is very soft and creamy. The MTF charts do NOT give this lens justice. It also has a VERY fast AF, and not ‘just for a macro’. When you put the focus limiter in place, appropriate for general or macro modes, it ‘snaps’ right into place. It’s also lighter than expected, and the manual focus ring moves very nicely.
I was also playing around with some of the “PLM” umbrellas from Alien bees, and discovered that this lens has excellent flare control and extremely low levels of CA.
It’s got everything I could have hoped for except maybe an f/2 aperture, which isn’t of much use for macro, but would have made this wonderful lens an excellent general purpose short telephoto lens.
Many people have alos become fans of Paul Smith Shoes since they came into the market. I also one of them , I very like Paul Smith Wallets and <a Paul Smith Belts,It designs very good.
