Firmware Version 1.0.9 incorporates the following fixes.

  1. Improves AF accuracy during Live View shooting.
  2. Corrects a phenomenon where in rare instances, movie images shot by the camera may exhibit abnormal colors.
  3. Corrects a phenomenon that at certain timings, the shutter cannot be released when the camera's built-in flash or an external Speedlite is used for shooting.

Firmware Version 1.0.9 is for cameras with firmware up to version 1.0.8. If the camera's firmware is already version 1.0.9, it is not necessary to update the firmware.

  1. Hmm… I’m very curious to see whether this fixes some of the horrid AF issues I read about that deterred me from getting one. I know it doesn’t say it but one friend who had trouble with his 7D’s AF in continuous shooting mode magicly got fixed today when he updated. Hope this is the case all around, if it is fixed then I’m sold once again on this camera.

  2. I have already updated to 1.0.9, thanks for the link. Now I can focus on sth. not being able to a while ago. Good job, Canon. And good job, cr. Many thanks.

  3. Canon released the firmware for 7D.

We had more than one sources telling that was going to happen, more than 1 month ago.

One of the fixes: Improves AF accuracy during Live View shooting.

    – CAN’T Canon also improve the LiveView AF Algorithm for the 5D Mark II ?

It’s one of the Features request, probably very possible since it’s completely by software (firmware in this case):

If you have a 5D Mark II, please check and consider adding your “2 cents” to this campaign. It’s VERY easy and fast.

  4. my wildest guess is that 5D2’s AF system and CMOS should be from another supplier, possibly LiveView AF software as well. It is way more difficult to change than 7D because extra cost of development which is paid to the supplier is involved. That 1080p@24fps might have more hope than this, which is completely depended on how Canon want his customers’ loyalty be.

It is none of my business but my 2 cents.

BTW, 7D’s liveview AF is jerky and slow.
