The forum will be moving to a new domain in the near future (canonrumorsforum.com). I have turned off "read-only", but I will only leave the two forum nodes you see active for the time being.

I don't know at this time how quickly the change will happen, but that will move at a good pace I am sure.

R6 Mark III Rumors – Announcement Very Soon?

The bump in resolution to the low 30 MPs is interesting. Will be interesting to see what the readout speed is and the final specifications. However, since I own the R5 Mk2 I will not be purchasing. No Canon cameras to be purchased until 2028 at the earliest. Lenses are a different matter although honestly only interested in the next gen of telephoto lenses.

R6 Mark III Rumors – Announcement Very Soon?

This camera will not be for me. Already have an R5mkII. Does everything I need for stills. But this seems to be a nice lower tier device for some people. I'm waiting for the new compact FF cinema device information. As that will be my last purchase for awhile. Waiting to see if they will implement view assist LUT in camera as in the C70.

Sigma formally announces the Sigma 200mm f/2 DG OS Sports

with any luck i will still be using my current gear 10 years down the line. knocking on wood, all of the canon DSLR gear I have purchased is still operational (even the EF50/1.4 not so L)
The point isn't that it will break in 10 years. Just want to be in an ecosystem (now it's closed) that doesn't contain just "what is the most value we can get while playing it safe". Canon has enough money to be able to afford taking more risks than it does.

I'm enjoying my current cameras and I've got EF focal length range from 11 to 600mm, plus 1.4 and 2x TCs. I've only been daydreaming of one or two TS-E lenses.
Unless something breaks, I'm sure this equipment can produce better quality images than I can. If one enjoys using their gear and the results from it, then satisfaction has been attained.
Canon has been sleeping enough on the Tilt Shift RF lenses, it's time they do something about it already

R6 Mark III Rumors – Announcement Very Soon?

This next gen of cameras is going to be interesting. Z6iii already here. S1ii is here too, and a better implementation of the sensor than Nikon managed. (Pana AF still sucks, unfortunately.) R6iii coming soon. Just like with the R6ii there were lots of wild "predictions" that Canon would use the R3 sensor but that never made any sense. Too expensive, plus market segmentation is a thing.

So, what will go into the R6iii? What will go into the also upcoming A7v?

Nikon ZR coming soon too, supposed to compete with the FX2 or FX3 but with the Z6iii/S1ii sensor. Mini-cine style body like the FX3/30/2.

A7Siv/FX3ii should be along sometime soonish too, probably with the Z6iii/S1ii sensor. Hopefully with a better implementation.

R7ii coming sometime probably early next year.

Lots of interesting cameras coming to market.

R6 Mark III Rumors – Announcement Very Soon?

Some internet chatter has been circulating; it's a good idea to address it here. The rumors suggest that Canon will make a soft announcement sometime between now and September 15th. This would lead Canon to place the R6 Mark III in the announcement stream just before the IBC conference (International Broadcasting Convention), which usually covers cinema cameras more than stills.

Something different. CR doesn't allow me to post in the thread to

Canon EOS R7 Mark II is Reportedly in the Wild

I think that is a technical problem. But if these rumors are coming true that the R7 II's body layout returns to Canon's standard layout, I'ii be really fast with an upgrade. :D
I've also been getting the same problem for a while now :(

BIRD IN FLIGHT ONLY -- share your BIF photos here

A Herring Gull with a blue wing band is a research-tagged bird. These colored bands, often with a unique code like a 3-letter combination, are used by ornithologists in research projects to study the movement, survival, and populations of gulls. Seeing such a bird provides valuable data for these studies, so reporting the sighting and any visible codes can be very helpful to the researchers.
Thanks for clearing that up.

Canon Still in Deep Research of Canon EF Cinema Lenses

This is a curious patent application from Canon. From the designs, it’s pretty evident that these aren’t your usual mirrorless zoom lenses.

A little background first on what we use to determine use cases for lenses. It’s all about the image height.

Canon RF 50mm f/1.2L USM II on the Horizon?

The pricing is close if you end up buying both the 600/11 and 800/11 for some framing flexibility. The 600/11 is $879 and the 800/11 is $1099 right now, which totals to $1978, and the 200-800 is $2099.

Of course, if someone just wants a 800mm f/11 and nothing else, then sure, but I am not sure how big that market is compared to someone who wants the flexibility of a zoom that goes to 800mm and 1/3-stop faster to boot.
For many people, the price difference between the zoom and the 800 is just huge.
That for many forum members $1000+ are rather insignificant doesn't apply to a vast majority of the population.

What is the blue band on its right wing?

I don't think we'll see more of them but the price difference means the 200-800 is definitely not a replacement!

Leica to Announce the M11-V, but is it still a Rangefinder?

How does Leica's triple resolution technology differ from Canon MILC's ability to output JPGs in three or four different resolutions (L, M, S1 and S2 for the R5)? Can the Leica output raw images in multiple resolutions?

Yes, they can produce different raw file resulution thanks to Triple Resolution (in-camera pixel binning) technology. Very handy if you don't need full resolution all the time.
