Canon EOS R1, EOS R5 Mark II and CF-R20EP Short Supply Notice

Well, you have your 5 year warranty. In the US, an online retailer can’t charge the buyer until the item ships. For a preorder or backorder, they can run an authorization but not actually post the charge. There’s an exception for ‘single use’ cards (prepaid credit cards and ApplePay can be fully charged at time of purchase).

‘Shipping’ is initiated when the seller has evidence of doing so, e.g., paying for shipping/postage. That’s why if you buy something here on eBay, the seller will immediately print a shipping label and charge you, but it may be a few days before they actually ship the item (in some cases because they’re making it to order, common with 3D printed items, custom-labeled items, etc.).
I'll keep my extended warranty and be careful with my online orders :)

My company has a strict no pre-payment policy and they are big enough to push that through although it depends on the Incoterm when invoices can be issued ie generally when title is transferred from seller to buyer or when the service has been provided. Insurance etc can be done with monthly payments.

The Canon EOS R5 Mark II will continue with CFexpress Type B/SD UHS-II card slots

I have low expectations for the buffer clearing behaviour in the R5II. I would be happy to be proven wrong, though!
Yeah, Jan Werner is already saying the buffer is better than the R5 but with 30 FPS it clears at the same rate and freezes just the same :( That's crap Canon, sorry.
I'm personally trading one of my R3s for an R1 and will shoot R1 (main) and R3 (secondary) for sports.

Ricoh launches Pentax 17 half-frame fixed lens film camera

Do you mean the Robot Star II by any chance (or any of the other Robot models)? It wasn't a half-frame camera though, but took square photos (some on this site here would grumble about the brain damage done to the Instagram generation of the 1930s). Since you could use the viewfinder sideways and due to its spring mechanism, it seemms to have been popular in spy circles and been used as traffic cameras.
Yes. That's it. Thank you so much. The minute I read "Robot" I slapped my head and spoke sternly to my memory. The store I worked at my last year or two of high school only had one...that they probably never sold. It wasn't half-frame....it was worse.

Here are a couple of images of the EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II

Apple's Get a Mac (Mac vs PC) ads were a rare exception and were done when they were in a very distant second place with only 4.3% of the personal computer market so they were fighting "Oh, are they still around?" as their marketing question.
It is not actually that rare.
A PC is not a brand.
It is another product category.
They never mention Windows.

Any details on R52 shooting stills while filming Video?

Greetings,
A Mod (acquaintance) of mine on the Canon community has told me all documented features are not official until the camera is released and links to the camera's documentation (manual) is linked from their support portal. The R52 manual is "unofficially" available but may not be 100% finalized. Do I think it's accurate now, probably.

Based on what's available now: (unofficially)

You have to have 2 cards in the camera to capture still while shooting video
Single and continuous shooting will be possible
Images will be higher res than frame grabs from video
Movies are recorded in Full HD image quality (1920×1080). Still photos are captured as JPEGs with an aspect ratio of 16:9 (7680×4320).
Movies are recorded to card 1 and still photos to card 2.

Option off/on
View attachment 218518

Drive Mode is selectable too
View attachment 218517

Caveats

High speed
With [Set-up: System frequency] set to [59.94Hz:NTSC]: Continuous shooting at up to approx. 7.5 shots/sec. while pressed
With [Set-up: System frequency] set to [50.00Hz PAL]: Continuous shooting at up to approx. 6.2 shots/sec. while pressed

Low speed
With [Set-up: System frequency] set to [59.94Hz:NTSC]: Continuous shooting at up to approx. 5 shots/sec. while pressed
With [Set-up: System frequency] set to [50.00Hz PAL]: Continuous shooting at up to approx. 4.1 shots/sec. while pressed

Single shots
JPEG compression 1-10 is supported

More
Still photos cannot be captured during movie recording when RF-S or EF-S lenses are attached.

Some features are not available with [Shooting: Dual shooting (still&movie)] set to [On]. Some limitations also apply to movie recording sizes and anti-flicker shooting. Magnification from the point in focus is not available for still photos captured with this feature. Similarly, in-camera resizing, cropping, and upscaling are not available.

This is not 100% confirmed, but likely.
Thank you so very much for this. :)

Canon 2nd Quarter 2024 Financials – Making Money

I got out of bed and dragged my arse to the computer to read that. It sounds like that's just Canon Japan's numbers?

I have to read it a little more.

yeah, it has to be the overall net sales are only 161 billion yen, versus Canon Global being 1167 billion yen.

photorumors is usually much better than that.
Peter has become a hack in the past year, probably the delusions of seeing “Sony trolls” everywhere finally took their toll :p
For real though, he seems to be on a pro-Nikon, anti-everyone-else crusade now. He’s not even bothering to try to hide his bias anymore. His relentless Canon and Panasonic bashing over the past few months have really turned me off from all of his sites.

Canon EOS R1 Spotted in the wild at the Monaco GP

Multiple remote cameras on robotic gimbals to the truck as well as primary and secondary shooters in key postions. We have about 9.0 dBm on the 5 GHz band and approx 100mbs to give you a sense of speed with a belt pack. That being said we still use runners who take whole card(s) to the truck and replenish with formated empties and batteries. The beginning of a meet is uploaded while we're still shooting.
It surprises me how many people think it's still the days of a photographer with a press pass in his hat brim, chewing on a stogie while shooting a Speed Graphic.

There are jints of a version II of a current RF lens coming in 2024 [CR2]

There are a lot of Mk I’s still to come, before we start seeing Mk II’s.
My first choice though would be the 24-105/4. The EF had two versions, the first being smaller and the second being sharper. I won't repeat my usual screed about f/4 being the new f/2.8 but I think it's a crossover spec that's good for both amateur and pro usage but I'm not sure the current one is quite pro sharpness. I'd welcome a sharper one even if it was 20% bigger and heavier. I'm waiting for the 35/1.2 (or even 1.0) but if I were still shooting professionally a new 24-105/4 would make more difference than anything else.

G7X MK IV ?

I struggle to understand why this market was seemingly abandoned by all the camera brands.
Because for a long time the sales went down. Most people said "Why would I need a camera? My smartphone can do the same."
But now you got a new generation of kids who are like "These cameras that our parents used in 2010-2015 were pretty cool."

Official announcement of the Canon EOS R1 is now expected in July

DiG!C X is not A processor, per se. It is a processor architecture with various different processors of varying speed and capacity. Similar in concept to various "Rocket Lake" or "Zen 5" CPUs.

The newer cameras with DiG!C X have more powerful processors than the older ones do.
While I don't doubt that newer variants are indeed more powerful, the generation used in the R6II/R8 made a huge leap in power efficiency, especially for video. It doubled the length of video you could shoot on a single charge.

The R5II seems to have slightly worse battery life than the R5 (based on the early one-day-only reviews), so I suspect that the extra "Digic Accelerator" and/or the sensor consume a lot more power. We'll see how it performs with production units after the first firmware update :)

Big question of af center point, and tracking subjects ON! Bug or is really how works???

Help please??
If you have subject detection ON, then, yes, the focus will go beyond your central focus point. If you do not want to subject detect and track beyond your focus zone, then you need to turn off subject detection. Experiment with some of the custom buttons and see what works for you.

Problem with stack (in camera) EOS R7

It can't find enough contrast and sharp edges in your scene, so it doesn't know how to stack it. The camera can't decide if something is out of focus, just a really smooth surface or both. My advice would be to try to make the subject you want to stack bigger in the frame.

Stacking tools on your computer (Helicon, Zerene) might be able to deal with it, though.

Canon RF 35mm f/1.2L USM Confirmed for 2024 [CR3]

Fair enough. I never even considered getting a special mount. I only shot the moon because my 31st floor apartment had a great view of all the evening departures taking off from Haneda, about one a minute for hours, and pretty much guaranteeing 3-4 transits like this a night around full moon (actually earlier moonrises would have also worked but never thought of it). Of course a special mount would have helped a huge amount for the moon, but I also wanted to freeze the aircraft. This was 600/4 and 2x and 1DsMkIII I think, and still cropped maybe to 2400mm FOV or so. 1/80, ISO800

View attachment 217949
Nice shot. Fwiw I wouldn't worry about pushing the ISO on moon shots because imo you can apply much more aggressive noise reduction and sharpening than on other subjects. I've photographed it up to 5600mm without a tracking mount (in that instance, the exposures were 1/200). Going as high as ISO 3200 should be fine for this sort of thing.
