Canon EOS R5 Mark II Specifications

But a 60mp sensor would be very undesirable for shooting video.

Look at these resolutions:
Sony 60mp: 9504 x 6336
Canon 45mp: 8192 x 5464
8K DCI: 8192 x 4320
4K DCI: 4096 x 2160

If we look at those horizontal resolutions, it's clear why there's a big problem with 60 mp. Using the Canon, I can shoot full width 8K and I can shoot full width 4K by simply pixel doubling.[...]
'Thanks' to the Bayer mask, it's not a matter of simply doubling the pixels. But seeing how well the updated Digic X in my R8 can downsample 24MP to 4k60, I'm not fearing a 60MP sensor doing 8k video. I do wonder how Canon is going to implement RAW video in that case, maybe they'll allow 60MP video and the user needs to make that 8k in post.

Do you still want a big zoom point & shoot?Panasonic has announced Lumix FZ80D with a 60x zoom range.

The old Fuji Finepix HS-EXR cameras that had HQ zooms and CMOS sensors were great buys back in the day and there were even a few models that took AA batteries, making them the ultimate long-zoom P&S, but they dropped those and now, there's nothing really comparable to those great cameras, as most of the players have abandoned that part of the camera market. This Panasonic zoomer certainly doesn't look too compelling from the specs, but with the lack of competition in that market segment, it's to be expected.

Delkin Black vs Delkin Power 4.0 Buffer Test

I also installed this into a computer: https://www.delock.com/produkt/91755/merkmale.html

That allows me to use the NVME tools under linux to inspect the cards. The downside to that: I'm using a consumer motherboard where PCIe hotplug doesn't work properly, so I have to reboot after inserting/removing a card :(

That's cool.... well not the reboot thing.

I have started using AtlasOS to avoid all of the crap Microsoft is doing to Windows. Hopefully they make an official no CoPilot in any way version. The uninstall is 368kb.... efficient coding! ;)

If not.... there are lots of good Linux distros (using Mint on a laptop) that I may explore further.

Canon Patent Application: Active Cooling Grip Revisited

I will be heard the bad guy now but what is the point to make a cooling grip when the competition doesn't need one and the recording times are huge without overheating... is it so hard for Canon to do something similiar? One week ago my R6 (C cam) stopped recording due to overheating at 1080p 50p while I was shooting an event at 37C under the sun. My old C100 Mark II never overheated, my C70 never does and also my bm 6k pro the same. Even the Canon EOS R didn't overheat or my old 5D4. I understand that some have internal fans and some were recording at 8-bit 420 (except my beloved c70 and also BM) but if competition can make it work with their MILC bodies then Canon should be able to follow! We use mics, cages, on camera LED lights and so much more and now we neew to add a heavy grip also, to be able to cool the camera! This is unacceptable IMO.
I'm hyperventilating after reading that.

Canon Announces First Lens in Series of Fixed Focal Length RF Hybrid Lenses – RF35mm F1.4L VCM

I strongly suspect that every future wide angle RF lens from Canon will rely on distortion correction, even a 35mm f/1.2L.
All wide-angle lenses rely on distortion correction.
Most do it optically.
The RF 10-24 f/4 L and RF 35 f/1.4 L rely heavily on digital correction.
Most of the things people are complaining about like dark corners also happen with Canon's optically corrected RF L lenses.

Canon Patent Application: Inner Zoom Video Lenses with Power Zoom

These seem like those terrible Sony power zoom lenses.
They seem to sell very well so I could see why Canon would copy them.
IMHO a variable aperture over such a short focal range makes a power zoom kind of useless.
A long focal range makes the aperture changes gradual.
I guess maybe these could zoom extra slowly.
I’m sure they could have software that shifts ISO during zooming to seamlessly compensate the exposure change. People who buy crappy lenses probably also don’t care much about electronic noise issues. Like you mentioned, this seems like a way to sell a lot of cheap lenses to people who don’t know better.

Canon patents a built-in tilting viewfinder

Personally, I would prefer to see a screen like the Sony A7RV that performs both tilt and vari-angle. I’m not very sure if I would use this feature at all, honestly. Hopefully it can lock securely in place if you don’t plan to use it.
You have hit on a 'weakness' in the way Canon implemented Version 1 of the add-on EVF for the M series of cameras. It tilts 'up'...and indeed tilting is a nice feature to have when needed. But since first grade, I've worn eyeglasses...and with this particular EVF I have discovered (I guess) that I often push my glasses right into contact with the viewfinder. It is not something that I notice.

But pushing my glasses into V1 of the M EVF pushes it up! Not good. THere is no lock to prevent tilting. So I attach a small piece of Scotch 33+ electrical tape (great product) to keep the viewfinder from moving in this way.

V2 of this viewfinder does not tilt up, and is a bit smaller than V1.

What’s next from Canon?

You cannot compare a 600/4 with the 200-800mm
Sorry, but I am in the same boat.
If you already have a supertelephoto zoom and are saving up for a 600 f/4 than a 200-800 would just be an unnecessary expense along the way.
The comparison is buy this or save up for something else.
In that sense, the something else could be completely unrelated like a car.
I never was sure why people think you can't compare apples to oranges.
If you only have money for one or the other then you need to compare them and choose one.

Canon Patent Application: Canon RF 35mm F1.4 and 26mm F1.4

Leica has a 28 f/1.8 Summilux in their Q-series, which is in fact a 25.6mm lens. With the lens profile applied it becomes a 27mm - close enough. Might be the same here. Digital correction as part of the design. I'll pass, as I already have a Leica Q3.
28mm f/1,7! ;)
And a great lens too!

Canon Patent Applications: Thermal Management and Control

Does anyone have proper knowledge on what the ‘low temperature burns’ EU legislation is about?
I know laptop designers are nowadays very careful to avoid making the outside hotter than 42C, but I don’t know the thresholds and if there are actual sanctions.

I do remember reading about it with the R5 - and the temperature is surprisingly low. but it depends on how much you are holding onto it, and how tightly, not just temperature.

in the case of laptops I would imagine the weight of the laptop, and heat surface on your legs. since you have far more of a grip on a camera, I would imagine the temperature threshold has to be lower than that.

in terms of the actual EU stuff, I can't recall to be honest.
