How long until the next FF body? Or buy now?

Your decision is absolutely correct.

I have a similar situation as you. At this time, I own canon APS-C cameras and several lens, and I am planing to upgrade to full frame camera this holiday. At the beginning I want to get 5D3 or 6D, but the announcement of Nikon D810, especially D750 changed my opinion. I will wait till Dec to see what will happen, if canon still refuse to drop the price of 5D3 or 6D significantly, definitely I will choose Nikon D750, which has Similar function, better CMOS, and lower price. and sell all my canon gears. Canon has to go forward, including announcing new FF bodies and lowering down 5D3/6D. It is really unwise for canon to keep the price of 5D3/6D steady at this time.

Thank you all for your help!

Judging by your replies and everything else I've read, I don't think it's wise to jump the Canon wagon right now. There are too many uncertainties there. I don't feel like investing in lenses and accessories, based on guesses and hopes.
Canon, like every other company, make money and they'll do whatever's best for them, not for me.
So, I'm going to wait until the end of December and if there are still no FF news coming from Canon, I'll go with Nikon D750 and 24-70. It's out of the question to wait another 6 months or more to find out IF their majesty, Canon are going to do something. Not just because I'm impatient - simply because life is too short to be wasted on blind expectations.

Cheers!

Danny Green Talks the Canon EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS II

Sure, it's a advert, with all the attendant hyperbole and the occasional error (as pointed out above), but the image gallery is impressive ... virtually all shot at 400 f/5.6; i.e., wide open at the long end of the zoom range. Too bad they didn't see fit to enable clicking on the images to open them at full resolution.
Yeah, seems they were all at f5.6 and mostly at 1/250. On the one hand, its impressive to be able to get relatively sharp shots (as far as we can tell) wide open. On the other hand, f5.6 would have been imperative to maintain an acceptable shutter speed (marginal at 1/250 @400mm handheld you would think) and an iso below 1,000. Bearing in mind not everyone has the luxury of a 1DX.
We can only assume that these were shot handheld. We may be induced to think so by the shot of Mr. Green holding his camera to his eye with this lens mounted, but that doesn't necessarily make it so.

Do you flick your camera off when setting it down?

RAID systems in a state of rebuilding, and you remove the wrong disk and not a spare - also a seriously long and bad day.
Checking redundancy in the main cooling system on the same day as they are working on the redundant cooling system - Yupp, bad bad day.

Things can go wrong in far more ways than they can go right. It's live and learn in this industry.
Off-topic but I've got to ask: What type of RAID array did you pull the wrong disk out of?
Yeah, I wouldn't mind knowing too although almost any RAID will fail if you yank a drive at the wrong time.
Putting the response here: It was a RAID 5 system, and everything was lit up like a bloody Xmas tree down at that disk system. The one who responded to the alert, pulled out the spare thinking it should go into the slot where the faulty was seated, and then the rebuild would start. Surprise! The rebuild had already started and it had begun to create the lost data from all parity bits on that no-longer-a-spare disk, That work didn't progress well when he had that disk in his hand...

Card images failed transfer error on 5d3

As for the iBashing, I have been leaning towards swapping the iPad for a Samsung because of the remote control options you gain. But it still wont take a CF card directly I believe. A USB connection is also possible with an iPad for image transfer. It is however terribly slow......
A brief primer about USB Host and android......

Most somewhat recent android devices support connections via USB Host (also known as USB OTG, On The Go).
OTG connectors are standard USB Micro-B plugs with the normally unused 5th pin connected to ground.
In use, OTG allows many (most or all? dunno) USB devices to connect to an android's Micro-B USB connection and operate (as much as possible) just like they do when connected to a PC's USB port.
Just for grins and the experience, I've connected a USB keyboard and a USB mouse to my androids and they worked just fine even if rather pointless. Tried my xrite color calibrator, it connected and showed up just fine but is a model incompatible with my android software and hardware.
I regularly use my OTG adapter to connect a thumb drive or my camera for file transfers to and from my androids.

OTG connection is also fast and solid when tethering to android with the DSLR Controller app.
I've used the OTG adapter to transfer using a card reader, plug and play.
Here's a google for OTG adapters
https://www.google.com/#safe=off&q=usb%20otg%20adapter

I use a short cable dongle thingy that has a 5th pin configured Micro-B USB male on one end, a standard USB female receptacle on the other.
There are now OTG capable thumb drives readily available on the market that plug and play.

If your iThings support USB Host, you may be good to go for file transferring IF no additional software is needed for Canon connections.
I wrote IF because on WIN 7 and earlier (don't know about WIN 8 ) , Canons don't just plug and play as removable drives as some other brand cameras such as Nikon and Olympus do, drivers that install with programs such as DPP or Lightroom are required. Being an iAvoider, I've no idea how iThings handle connected Canons.

Regarding switching to a Samsung tablet, slow down a little bit and spend some quality time comparing specs, specifically screen/display specs.
Not saying I'm Samy averse, I have a Samy phone that I love/hate enough that I want a newer model.
When it came time for a tablet for use specifically as a Canon accessory, I chose an ASUS.
As the market has certainly changed since my purchases, I suggest you do your own research, ASUS may not still be the brand I'd choose for a tab.

B&H and NewEgg are two good places to start researching, good choices for purchasing too.
I especially like browsing NewEgg, on the specifications tab of many product pages is often a link direct to the manufacturer's product page

The structure of a CR2 file

LDS said:
There's a Canon SDK available (http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/standard_display/sdk_homepage), I don't know how much access to RAW data it gives, though.

One CR regular (I don't remember who it was) wrote that Canon's sdk is a problem because they keep changing their cr2 structure and whatnot. Thus, it seems to be hard to code universal apps working with all cameras - probably one big point in favor of Adobe's dng.

6D plus Selphy CP910 for event printing

Bennymiata said:
How did you go with the Selphy?
Did it work OK?

It worked well and people were very happy with the results. The only significant issue was print speed, as expected. We got fairly far behind generating prints when things got busy about halfway into the event, and people were waiting 20min for prints by the end. Some even left without picking up prints which is a problem (we left them at the zoo venue for later pickup, but many probably just went to the web and abandoned the prints).

In terms of set-up, I had a volunteer assistant sitting at the laptop picking the best of 2-3 prints per group and running the printer, and I just kept shooting in the next room with my 6D wirelessly tethered to Lightroom on the laptop (via the Canon WFT driver and EOS Utility running in the background). JPegs showed up on the laptop within a few seconds, and that worked smoothly all night without me having to think about it.

In all, we printed 120 photos in just over 2 hours, so doing the math you can see the printer ran full out for the entire time. We're considering setting up 2 printers on the same laptop and queuing up 2-3 prints and then switching over in Lightroom for our next event (photos with Santa). I can see the utility of buying a bigger/faster printer if you did this all the time (or for print sales), but this works well enough at $80 a pop and $.30/print.

Roger Machin shows new 100-400mm

Roger Machin is actually a very senior Canon official and highly knowleagable on their lenses and their bodies.

I'm attending the Cape Town leg of Canon's Roadshows Saturday coming and Roger normally gives superb presentations.

He is a Canon man and does plug their wares a little too vigorously but it is the only platform they have to address their clients en masse.

He is very highly respected down here.

7D Mark II Raw Processing

And then Canon not supporting the latest version of DPP in Mac Osx Yosemite is another travesty.

DPP 3.14.46 and 4.1.1 work fine for me in Yosemite (on multiple Macs).

You have to select Mavericks as the OS version when downloading from Canon.

Phil.

Interesting, if it's as simple as that one would think the web site change to allow Yosemite downloads would be quite easy. I tried 3.14.15.2 and it doesn't work. Are you using 7D Mark II Raw files?

I don't have a 7D2; but I tried it on some sample RAW files I downloaded from imaging-resource.

Both versions work fine on the 7D2 files (for me).

I'm not surprised 3.14.15 does not work - it's pretty old.

Phil.

Two New 24-70's Coming in 2014? [CR1]

Mitch.Conner said:
Too bad this rumor didn't pan out this year. We saw another patent for an EF 24-70 f/2.8 IS USM in April of this year, but no additional hints as to whether Canon plans to expand its 24-70 offerings any time soon.

The first part of the rumor came true, an IS, variable aperture, STM, non-L 24-105 arrived or is about to.
But yeah not the second part.

So when I submit a post, I often consider my signature line and I ask myself, "Yes, but what would surapon say?". Get it? ;)

Or more important, how would Surapon word a post.

I don't always agree with Surapon's opinions, but I do respect and appreciate his manners on this forum.

You never know, for all we know the kind and humble Mr. Surapon could be a major crime syndicate kingpin boss but we'll never know because he's so unassuming and nice. It's amazing what a few good manners will do for someone!

Yes, se sets a example that is almost too good to be true. It may be a cultural thing. There is a person at our local Costco named Kittipong who is exactly the same way. Always uber polite, friendly, and smiling. I prefer to go thru his checkout line when possible, its a nice feeling to leave the checkout feeling good and smiling. Most of the checkers are friendly, but he goes way beyond.

in the van, in the back seat,
buckled in, 'cause it's heavy,
parked the car in a tow-away zone.
Hoped to not get a ticket today.

But in the..

stretching out to the distant horizon,
'cause the photo is sharp, unlike the model I's,

Solid DPReview video (20+ min) with a wildlife photographer

Just watched it. :)

It think it is great as for the videographic quality as for the quality of the content! And those wolves and mountain lions didn't seem very zooish to me... Very agile and obviously quite a bit dangerous with no fence between you and them. I'd like to see someone doing a real wildlife shoot with an amateur in an appropriate amount of time for a video review. ???

However, the 7DII another time has proven to be an extremely well-designed package from every view; AF, IQ, handling, everything is top notch.

There is another video by Faymusmedia (don't know how reliable they are) in which they compare the high-ISO performance of the 5DIII and the 7DII and the 7D seems to win! I don't think it is a fair comparison because of the exposure of the test images and at the highest setting they used different ISO's, but they once again showed the competitiveness of the 7DII.
See for yourself (around 35:55):
