Sony a7r with Canon Lens experience

For landscape photography, especially on a tripod, I think you'll be very happy with an A7R; although you may want to wait until the A7R II comes out and then grab an A7R for even cheaper. For street photography, I think it's a bit iffy unless you're sticking with stationary subjects, in which case the A7R will be fine. For moving targets with your EF lenses you're stuck with focus peaking, since you can't effectively use the loupe on moving targets, which seems to only really be good at f/2.8 and smaller. You could also try some FE lenses, but I'm not too impressed with the AF performance there. In theory, since it's mirrorless, the focus should pretty much always be bang on, but I've found in practice the hit rate on static subjects is significantly worse than my 5D3. In any case, if your primary usage is static scenes that you'll be manually focusing then I think you'll be very happy with it.

Can "Flicker" feature of 7D2 be a firmware update to the X?

It'd be nice to have, but if it costs (say) a million in R&D then Canon can either put that effort into the 1Dx and give it way for free (zero profit), sell it (unlikely) or save it for the new pro body and get some of that cost back.

The way I see it such an upgrade is probably physically possible, but unlikely economically.

EF 24-70mm

I think I am convinced to get the EF 24-70 F/2.8L Version II. I know there were some issues with a clicking noise with one of the rings. Focus/zoom, I don't remember which one. The Forum owner had posted some insider info about this informing about the serial numbers or dates of manufacture that were affected. Do you know where I can find that post? I tried searching but couldn't locate it. And do you know if that issue is now resolved or still ongoing? Thanks,
Ray

most of us have been somewhat disappointed that our beloved brand Canon didn't introduce a higher megapixel sensor to rival that of the competition...

"Most" of us?

What do you base that speculation on?

New found love - 35mm

dancook said:
I started street photography 2-3 months ago, everyone raves about 35mm - I tried it, and hated it. I suppose when you're new, you haven't developed techniques and you have to get that close to people it makes it a very daunting prospect!

So over these 2-3 months I shot with telephoto lenses, 135mm f2 with and without 1.4 TC, then when I got the great white 200mm f2, I should that with and without 1.4 TC. Almost 400 photos collected in my telephoto album here http://www.flickr.com/photos/62198876@N02/sets/72157643448738663/

When I started using the 200mm f2, people stopped to ask me 'what' it was - Oh.. it IS a lens? really yes.. I built up a fair bit of confidence, and people could see I was clearly not trying to hide.

With my new found confidence, I thought I'd try wide again using my 40mm pancake - removed the grip from my 5dm3 - and it feels a lot more discreet than my gripped 5dm3 200mm f2 ever was :)

After a session with the 40mm, I was starting to see how AF wasn't much good for edge of frame focus on subjects that are very close. I had been avoiding my Carl Zeiss 35mm 1.4 Distagon because it's about the size of a 135mm f2.. but really considering how far I'd come, it was not much of a concern anymore.

I quickly settled on manual settings of 1/1000, f16, Auto-ISO - this mean that I could take photos whilst still move and had as much as possible in focus. This 35mm lens is manual focus only and has a good smooth long throw - with a focal gauge, it's great for prefocussing - even adjusting the distance between me and the subject changes.

Here is the lens

Even though I've had a cold, I managed to get out quite a bit this weekend, amassed 77 new photos on my flickr

Here's a small selection, though it's hard to tell what type of photos pleases the audience the most :)
