Looks good! How did you do the slowmotion parts, did you use twixtor or just go below 24p? The 5dii only does 30p, 30->24p is not much slower! In any case it looked good, I didn't see anything that looked bad on first (and only) viewing.

Thanks! I shot on 25fps and used twixtor as you assumed correctly. I'm glade you didn't discover any warping, thanks for the feedback! :-)

take care
Basilius

If there was any, it didn't stand out on first viewing which is the whole point, so well done! You were smart to make the really slow parts very short so there's no time to catch any warping. :)
Haha, Thanks! Yeah for most of the times Twixtor work surprisingly well!

edit: okay I watched it a second time, now the warping is obvious... haha. I don't know if I was just tired or if your video was captivating enough for me not to notice the first time around but either way I think it's not bad. After the second viewing I'd suggest: get a 7d for 60p for slower slomo, don't slow down so much and when you do make it even shorter. :)
60 fps RAW Video in full HD would be awesome! ;D

Best body for my needs? [yet another 6D vs 70D thread, sorry]

bholliman said:
+1. The 5D2 really has no advantages over the 6D other than price.

It's not "just" the price, it *is* the price - so as the worth of one $/€ is very subjective, the only possible basis for comparison is someone buying a cheaper body + more expensive lens or vice versa.

We all know the op will end up with the 6d anyway and this thread is just for fun - very few people (one is the CR memeber Paul as far as I remember) can resist the magnetism of is premium products ... so I have to re-post this, I didn't post it for some days now :-p

Lightning Triggers

I am wanting to get a trigger before the spring storm season and I need some advice. I am tired of putting 100s of clicks on my camera just to catch 2 or 3 daytime bolts.

How about using Magic Lantern and the bolt_rec module :-p ... cost: zero, and it's a dedicated software solution for triggering your camera on lightning bolts: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=6303.0

Canon to Offer Global Shutter for 2.5k Video on an Upcoming DSLR? [CR1]

who has full frame video as in I mean full pixel count its all down sampled. Full red I guess would rock...

FF video means that when you stick a 24/1.4 lens on your camera, you get a horizontal AOV of 73.74° and a DOF of f/1.4 at 24mm. That will affect the perspective. If you want practical numbers, if your subject is 2 meters away, your horizontal coverage (how much you see to the sides of your subject) is 3 meters. If you put the same lens on a RED camera, you get a horizontal AOV of 53.89°. This means that you'll only capture 2.03m of the environment horizontally if your subject is 2 meters away. This will look different. The chair on the left of the subject and the hanging tree branch to the right of your subject that were visible in the frame when you used the lens on FF are not visible on your RED camera. The DOF will also be different (deeper) on RED. Also, it's not "down sampled", it's line skipped. The full sensor is used, but only 1080 vertical lines are read out of all the vertical lines to get 1080 resolution video, likewise for horizontal (1920).

so 5d 3 is a 4k camera?

Not with factory settings...
You can come pretty close to 4K with Magic Lantern.

All Canon TS lenses

RobertG. said:
Unfortunately I couldn't try the new Hartblei lenses with Carz Zeiss optics yet. Basically these are older medium format lenses which use the same mechanical designs for tilt and shift as the old Ukrainian lenses. They are really huge and heavy. I find these aspects quite unpractical, especiall for landscapes, and prefer the Canon lenses.

They have a 120mm macro TS lens. Would like to see one, but given the price...

How would one go about....Macro wireless slave speedlites

I also will consider the Manfrotto 330B Bracket...

It would be good to hear from someone who uses one of these - I think the lack of flexibility might be somewhat limiting. In particular, the two flashes are fixed in the same plane, so while you can tilt the camera to get one of the flashes somewhere in an arc 'over' your subject (simulating the natural illumination from above that our brain 'expects'), that means the other flash at 180° is 'under' your subject. I do a lot of macro shooting at ground level, so 'under' would require digging a hole in the ground for the other flash.

Damn your logic! All it does is take me back to wanting an MT-24EX (which I know is one of the best setups and all I'm doing here is mental masturbation with less flexible and variable light power setups)

Sync speeds beyond 1/500 sec (not leaf shutters)

BL said:
thanks for the callout, not sure how i missed that!

maybe then another way to phrase the question:

What exactly gives one DSLR a sync speed of 1/500sec (e.g. a dated Nikon D40/D70, arguably an amateur camera) vs 1/180sec (e.g. Canon's 6D)?

Sensor size? Although I do recall the original Canon EOS-1D having a 1/500sec sync...

The 6D is an amateur FF camera. It has an FF sensor, but many other limitations. That said, you can use a HSS flash on it like on any other camera with a focal plane shutter: HSS supports any shutter speed. Unfortunately the fastest shutter speed is 1/4000 on the 6D, so that's the maximum you can sync your flash to. The 6d can't do faster than 1/4000 shutter speed because of its inferior shutter. The cheap price doesn't come cheap (pun intended): it's not inexpensive, it's cheap!

Is that doughnuts I see?

Doughnuts? Where? Or what do you mean?

On your website, in the tenth image from the bottom (and a few others) the bokeh looks like the ring effect you get with a mirror lens. If that's the case it makes your images that much more impressive, as far as I know mirror lenses don't have autofocus.

TSE + Macro?

surapon said:
Yes, My TS-E 24 mm. F/ 3.5 L MK II is great for Macro Photos too, This Lens have Min. Focus Distant = 0.21 M or 0.69 FT. That great for the Macro of Flowers in this distant.

I took these with a 24mm TS-EII and a 1.4xIII extender. None are crops.

Kinda want to try a 90mm TS-E... :)

wide andgle lens for a 60d

Stick with crop format wide/ultrawide lenses for a crop body - those focal lengths are where the lens design benefits of a smaller sensor are significant. Don't buy a FF lens 'because you may go FF, in a few years' - buy a good crop format lens and sell it later.

Get the Canon 10-22mm, Tokina 11-16mm, or Sigma 8-16mm. The Tokina has the narrowest range but a constant and fast f/2.8 aperture. The Sigma is the widest, with the slowest aperture. The Canon is intermediate on both. All three are very good optically. The Canon will likely hold resale value better, if that matters.

If you don't need the ultrawide range (<15mm on APS-C), ditch your 18-135 and get the 15-85, which is optically much better than the 18-135.
