I know a lot of people talked about re-mapping the pixels by taking off the lens, attaching the body cap, and then selecting manual sensor clean but that didn't do anything to fix the hot pixels in video mode on my cameras. I know the Olympus cameras have pixel re-mapping in the firmware and I've heard that the new Nikon will too but I can't confirm that. I just hope for $3500 they will include this and possibly update some of the other cameras firmware even though I doubt it. I've heard of it costing close to $200 to send it to Canon if your camera is not covered under warranty or even more if they have to replace the sensor. I can fix it myself in Final Cut Pro but its a pain to have to do and if the dead pixel is on a face it can be a bit tricky to fix in your videos. Hot pixels in stills are pretty easy to fix but in a video it can be a nightmare.

The 7D and 5D2 is a perfect combo... FF options with crop sensor reach, and weather sealing on a sweet crop body. However, as some have already noted, you may find the AF on the 5D2 somewhat lacking. It really reminds me of my 40D's AF - and is a bit of a step down from your 7D's system.

That said, it still is a great combo. But that 5D3 AF (taken straight from the 1DX), looks mind blowing.

And adding my earlier comments about elements of scene moving. And that many landscape guys work "golden hour" sunsets and sunrises or even very dark conditions. Landscape Photography, like other forms, is a very diverse field and no one tool is going to fit all the situations or preferences.

Can't really tell from this limited sample set, but I'm not seeing much of a difference in ISO performance between the 1Dx and 5DIII.

Back the end of February, Canon UK (and I think Germany) posted a press release stating that the 1D X would not ship until late April:

I don't know about Canada but I kept watching and never saw a similar press release from Canon USA. I don't know if they are that out of the loop or simply don't care to update their US customers. I think the original date given was the end of March so it looks like a slip of a month at least.

This is more with the sensor than the lens. Especially in low light, the sensor needs to distinguish between not a great deal of contrast.

Do you have an example you can post? Try this: set your camera to "manual clean" and leave it for a minute. Don't clean it, just activate the procedure. That can fix it, I know it works for me.

I think my point was two fold: 1. Take a cheap shot at an overrated photographer. 2. Point out that he is criticizing (on specs alone) a camera that he hasn't used.

As to your point: On a personal level I could not agree with you more, but I'm not convinced the general public feels this way.

I watched "Downton Abbey" over the weekend, and I swear this show would not be as popular without the Alexa. That camera makes each scene interesting because of the color and detail. Have you seen it?

To me the 5D Mark II that I own is perfectly built. I have been using it for 3 years through rain, snow and it did it's job. The Mark III seemed more compact, more 7D-like with it's rounded shapes and certainly very well built.

As far as sharpness is concerned the 24-70 L II + Mark III combo gave me some sharp results judging from the LCD. I shot at 2.8 at 24mm and when zoomed at 100% the image was very sharp.

Thanks for the quick reply! In regards to the 5d2s weathersealing, it's been said to be similar to the xxd but the 7d raised the bar a bit... Anywho I'm pleased that you felt it was better. Do you know if the battery and card doors are spring loaded and lined like the 7D or are they just simple hinges like the 5d2? I hope it doesn't have the weird affect the 7d does when you take out it's battery, the LCD overlay in the VF goes dark and blurry and you cannot focus/use the camera other than being a paperweight until the battery is reinserted.

I didn't think to open the battery door so I have no idea how it was. The card door was taped by the rep to prevent you from taking out the card and inserting yours. Can't say I wasn't tempted to do that

What I did notice is the rubbery cover over the CF and SD door. Much better than the 5D Mark II.

In my opinion, it simply comes down to what you want out of your camera.

If you and your clients are comfortable with the photos you take, I don't think you should feel required to update.

That said... if you choose not to upgrade, you should accept that you may be passed over for photo projects based on your camera. I routinely receive requests for a "gear list" from people that have little to no experience with photography. I have a suspicion that they simply Google my gear to see if it is "pro enough" for their project. Silly, I know, but it is the world we live in.

Also, you should accept that your camera is now 8 years old and many inexpensive DLSRs have passed it by in terms of the technology deployed to take better photos. While I'm sure there are a few minor things, I would guess that a T3i could outperform a 1D mkII in just about every test. Actually, I'd like to see that

From an article on Canon's Learning Center about the 5DM3 and video:

"* HD 50 fps or 60 fps recording places the greatest demands on memory card speed, especially during ALL-I recording. Required read/write speed during HD 720p ALL-I recording for CF cards is 30 MB/sec; for SD cards, 14MB/sec."

Anyone know why it wouldn't require the same MB/sec rating for both types of media? the MB/sec should be driven by the video recording parameters; not the card format shouldn't it?

In the recent post http://www.canonrumors.com/2012/03/5d-mark-iii-availability-update there is a rumor that prices will be regulated.

Does anyone think the prices could rise come May? Is this some scare tactic by Canon to spook the channel and perpetuate sales? Or does Canon want to maintain the MSRP as long as possible to avoid devaluing the new offering?

I'd go with the 5D mk3 after a slight price drop, if the ISO performance of the 5D mk3 turns out to be as good as expected/announced. However, that's just my personal preference.

For you, APS-H would be useful for getting a bit of the "sweet spot" effect in lenses, as well as increase the effective range of tele lenses (long lenses, sports, myes). There's a big list of benefits to the 1D mk4. It's better sealed than the 5D mk3 (although that's better sealed than the mk2) and the burst rate is higher, as you mentioned. For video, the 5D mk3 probably beats the 1D4.

The $3500 US price is before tax. Tax differs between cities in the US so all MSRPs do not include tax. If I were buying local tax would be 6.5% but nearing 10% as I approach Chicago. But 0% from Amazon :-D

The $3500 price in US is including the American tax (vat) and profit. When the camera is shipped in UK the taxes and profit is not included ( witch the raw price is far less than $3500). in my opinion the companies that imports the camera is adding at least 100% profit.

that why the prices are so high compared with US.
