I am kind of shocked reading about all those bugs with the R5mkii. At first, I thought it only concern a very small amount of all sold cameras. But I've read reports in several forums from different customers in various contries and seems like a bigger issue. As a mkii version, I thought there would less flaws as with the original R5... but I was wrong.

In Germany, there is a saying: "Das Produkt reift beim Kunden". The literal translation would be: "The product matures with the customer" although I´d rather say: "The product evolves with the customer". This absolutely seems to be the case with the R5mkii.

Personally, I hate it when products are released that don´t work properly... I'd rather have the company release features later and make sure they work.

Do not be "afraid" of the EOS R5 II, there will soon be a fix for those issues.
I've just ordered the second one! I love this camera!

Honestly, I am not afraid, but the R5 works great and for me personally, the "upgrade" is just too expensive. I´d rather spent that type of money on lenses.

I'll get mine from Panamoz for Euro 3346,20. Expensive???
Edit: Canon R5 II from official stores in France and Germany: Euro 4799. Difference: Euro 1452.80., about 1/3 less...

Sadly, I won't even have to pay the Big Beautiful Tariffs buying from Panamoz.
I feel like crying...

I wouldn't dislike buying photo gear from Australia.
But French customs would charge 16% custom duties + 19% VAT. And warranty would also be an issue, unless Canon Australia sells with a worlwide warranty.
Yet, I keep wondering at what causes these huge price difference between countries. Is the profit margin really so high?

Interesting statement. Why don´t you like the r6mkii? I currently own the R5, but I recently thought about ditching it and getting the r6mkii and a R8 as a backup. Although I dismissed this thought (at least for the moment), I´d like to know what feature make you "adore" the R5 but "hate the R6mkii". I always thought they are very similar in a lot of ways.

I got my R5 for 2.200 € with a shutter count lower than 7.000. So, expensive is relative, but for me: Yes, it still seems expensive.

Resell value of the R5 on "kleinanzeigen" (eBay): 2000 €, at the very most 2.300 €...the upgrade costs me at least 1 k and for my personal use, what do I gain? Basically nothing.
- AF? Yes, the AF is better on the R5mkii, but the R5 is also great in this regard. So, I don't need an upgrade here.
- Eye-control, makes the camera not fit properly in my camera bag (PD everyday backpack 20 L). Not for me...
- Stacked sensor, admittedly a nice feature, but for me personally not necessary atm.
- all the bugs? Keep them, please

There are two features I´d like: more useable silent shutter (less rolling shutter/ banding) and better heat management. Stacked sensor, as mentioned, is nice, but nothing I´m absolutely looking for in an upgrade. 1 k + x is just too much money in that regard.


For some people, these updates may seem crucial, but for me it would be pure luxury. I´d rather take the 1k + x and invest in a lens. I really, really liked the RF 50mm F1.4 L VCM, which I rented last week. I'll rent the RF 50mm F1.2 in August, than I'll decide which one I'll pursue. Given the weight of the latter lens, I´m guessing F1.4

It would be a country of origin thing, so a EU-Australia FTA would not be applicable here.

Canon cameras are manufactured in Japan/Taiwan/etc..., so French customs should charge whatever the applicable rate is for cameras made in Japan/Taiwan/whatever, whether it is imported via Australia or directly from Canon HQ.
