Canon EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II marketing and training has begun with preferred retailers

Why do you say that? The R1 will he available for purchase then but otherwise? Lots of rumours but nothing to show. How long has the rf35/1.x been rumoured?

Besides the cinema zoom lens… I haven’t seen a price for it yet but it won’t be cheap!

Canon Patent Application: Filter system for Dual Fisheye

answering my own question but perhaps a CPL to reduce reflections could be used to avoid reflections of elements behind the camera (tripod, people etc) from reflective surfaces in front of the camera. I haven't used the lens but I imagine it would be tricky to avoid unintended elements in frame.

Canon Patent Application: Hybrid IR/Color sensor to improve Image Quality

Using the existing bayer pattern and modifying the channels in-camera, could the result be better AF as the contrast seems to be better? Or perhaps used only in low light or when focus hunting?

Canon Patent Application: Filter system for Dual Fisheye

What would be the use case for CPL with VR? CPL with wide angle that includes the sky during the day is problematic... with the sky hard to avoid with this lens if recording outdoors.

Can you elaborate? Any data to back this opinion up?

Maybe the 60 photographers employed in software publishers are for video games, backgrounds etc. Must be highly specialised whatever the role. For the accountants/book keepers etc, there are 1.1m people and 140 are photographers. Looking at the breakdown, they fit in with audio/sound/lighting...

Great survey/results! It would be so much better if ~22% didn't just come from 4 US states. Although it seems to match the US census demographic top 4 states where ~40% of US citizens calling themselves photographers are from. Fairly depressing information with the median income (pre-tax?)...

yes, the IDXiii will still be available for purchase for some time to come just as the 5Div is still available but the range is pretty small now. I am guessing that some R3 users will upgrade to R1 as well... or maybe the R3 will be phased out over time as a separate product line :)

    Canon’s upcoming announcements recap

Not yet... I was thinking about a TS-R 14mm if it comes out but I think that the RF10-20/4 may be an easier and cheaper option and then adjust key stoning in post for above water architecture and waterfalls etc. I wouldn't need to buy another dome/port extension for underwater use so that is...

    Canon’s upcoming announcements recap

I have the impression that there are a bunch of 1DXiii users out there waiting for the R1. The 1DXiii was available Feb 2020 ie just over 4 years ago so the "decade" comment doesn't apply there. The total number of 1D users would't move the unit marketshare needle though. The R3 may have...

Sounds like you need to educate them and take one on anyway :)

That is very true if current EF users have a significant number of L lenses... as I did. I now have only two EF L lenses left 4 years after migration. One should be migrated to the RF14-35/4 at the end of the year. The zoom fisheye has no comparable RF option but the 14mm width of the 14-35mm...

    Canon’s upcoming announcements recap

My ~50% comment was related to Canon currently being ~twice Sony's marketshare if Sony roughly neck and neck with Canon in MILC. I would be surprised if half of Canon's unit sales are still DLSR.

    Canon’s upcoming announcements recap

Canon have stated that they will continue to make DLSRs as long as customers want them. There is still a market for them and they are still cheaper to make and profitable at the low end. They MAY cease production at some point but it isn't now and there are still competitive markets in...

    Canon’s upcoming announcements recap

Anecdotal examples have shown me that it either depends on disposable income or a specific use case for one lens where a mixed Canon/Nikon or Canon/Sony dual systems can be found. A small leica walkaround setup and a R3+100-300/2.8 for sports. An astro setup of A7siii+14/1.4+20/1.4 plus a Canon...

    Canon’s upcoming announcements recap

The R5 definitely has a constrained bus speed in my opinion as the eshutter bit depth drops to 12bit which is approximately the same bandwidth as 14 bit/12fps when using the mechanical shutter. As far as I know, only the R3 and R6ii can do pre-capture and they have half the file size than the...
