Canon’s 2024 Roadmap, and the timeline surprised us [CR3]

It's still relevant since it determines the maximum frame rate the camera can shoot. It's also important for AF since all AF data comes from the sensor. The faster the camera can get access to that data the more time it has to process and act upon it which should improve AF performance.

Canon’s 2024 Roadmap, and the timeline surprised us [CR3]

We don't know what the readout speed of the a9iii is since it's impossible to test using the usual strobe light test. But given that it's max framerate is 120fps it must be under 8ms.

Canon has registered a new ILC camera with regulators

The use of 20+80MHz channel widths also points towards WiFi. No wireless flash control would require such high bandwidth. The use of any QAM modulation would be unnecessary for wireless flash contol.

    Canon EOS R1 Specifications [CR2]

Depends on how it's implemented. The c300/70 use a single ADC and double read each line which causes the slower readout. But there is no reason you couldn't use two ADCs set to two different gain levels and split the signal from the sensor.

Canon not going global shutter with next round of EOS R camera bodies

The 1DX cost $9200 and the 1Ds MkIII cost $10400 if you adjust for inflation so i'm not sure you are being realistic.

Opinion: The USB-C DSLR problem isn’t as bad as you think

The problem with the USB-C connector is that it is capable of handling multiple different protocols and charging. However there is no requirement for ports to provide anything over then basic usb 2 connectivity. This means that a consumer had no way of knowing what a usb-c port on a device is...

A bit more information on the upcoming RF 200-800mm f/6.3-9 IS

Are you taking the piss? An 800mm lens with a f4 aperture would require a 200mm front elememt - similar to the Canon 1200mm F5.6 which sold for over $100k. Even at F5.6 you would need a 140mm front element. By keeping the aperture reasonable Canon is allowing this lens to be somewhat affordable...

Canon EOS R1 prototypes are in the wild [CR3]

Considering the 1ds Mkiii from 2007 retailed at $10, 400 (inflation adjusted) I don't think you are going to get very far with you wish. The cost of pro bodies represent such a tiny fraction of a pro photographers business expenses the price isn't really that important.

Canon Announces CR-N100 4K PTZ Camera and Flagship RC-IP1000 Remote Camera Controller

The RC-IP1000 controller looks suspiciously similar to the Panasonic AW-RP150. The button layout is almost identical.

Does Canon have plans to release a ‘retro’ styled EOS R camera in the future?

Why are people so obsessed with shoving a modern camera into a an old body with crappy ergonomics?

SmallRig announces LP-E6NH battery for Canon, priced at $39.99 USD.

The battery will have a inbuilt charging circuit for the usb socket. Charging a lithium battery is fairly straight forward - current limited until the battery reaches it's design voltage then constant voltage. The current will then slowly drop as the internal resistance increase. Eventually the...

Canon box style cinema camera appears in patent again

As was pointed out the last time this patent came up, this is basically the Red Komodo. It's so similar it's hard to call it a coincidence. Have to wonder if there is some undisclosed collaboration going on between Canon and Red.

Canon Cinema EOS Cameras Coming in 2023 [CR3]

Looking at the amount of collaboration between Canon and RED I wouldn't be surprised if Canon bought them in the near future.

Canon Cinema EOS Cameras Coming in 2023 [CR3]

A global shutter means that the frame is all exposed at the same time - the read out is still done line by line. Global shutter sensors are often slower to readout than rolling shutter designs which limits the maximum frame rate possible. They are also much more expensive and generally have...

USD pricing for the Canon EOS R6 Mark II and Canon RF 135mm f/1.8L IS USM has leaked ahead of the imminent announcement

Well if the R6mk2 has a 24mp sensor then Canon have 2 options: Create a entirely new sensor with all the associated cost such as design, testing, fabrication, firmware development and setting up a new production line. A process that would cost millions and take many months if not years. Or: Just...

Unconfirmed Canon EOS R7 Specifications [CR1]

I find it highly unlikely that Canon would go through all the effort of designing a completely new apsc sensor and make it the exact same resolution as the last one.

Unconfirmed Canon EOS R7 Specifications [CR1]

32mp suggests that it's using the same sensor thats in the 90d+m6mk2. Would be a bit disappointing to see a 3 year old sensor used in the R7.

Industry News: Nikon plans to have 50+ Z-mount lenses by 2025

The Canon is a 5x zoom vs the 3x zoom of the sony. That is a massive difference in range. The Sony also starts at 200mm vs 100mm of the Canon which greatly reduces its usability in many situations. The Canon is also half a kilo lighter than the sony. Overall the 100-500 is a much more versatile...

Here are some Canon EOS R5 C specifications

The R5 sensor isn't capable of 240hz read out. Not much Canon can do about that.

Canon USA teases the Canon EOS R5c announcement

Not very. What people call carbon fibre is actually carbon fibre reinforced polymer. Carbon fibre on its own is not very useful as its flexible. Canon does use carbon fibre for a few items. Most of canons "plastic" bodies are made of polycarbonate which is a very expensive plastic that is...
