Been over to Belgium to photograph the first world war cemeteries in conjunction with the 100th year anniversary of it's beginning. Quite, quite unbelievable, the loss of life defies belief.

Here's a shot of Brugge or Bruges in West Flanders, an area that saw some of the heaviest casualties in WW1.

Very nice picture. If you ever visit Belgium again, you can find similar area in Gent in the middle of the town. You can look around with google streets.

The battlefields of ww1 were a little more to the south. My granddad did even fight over there. They even used the water of a small river called the Ijzer to place the battlefield completely under water. Terrible things he told me thereabout.

Terrible what happend over there. Regret to see all the commercial activities in that area that keep on making money out of this tragedy.

Very pleasant light in this one, and you made a superb composition, Sporgon!

click, febs, gert & domino, thanks for your comments on this one. Much appreciated.
@FEBS, I know what you mean regarding the commercialisation, but I do think it is important that we don't ever forget just what happened here, and how dreadful it was, to ensure it doesn't happen again.
