Canon EOS 5DS & EOS 5DS R Available to Buy on June 29, 2015

B&H Photo has updated their website to say that the brand new Canon EOS 5DS & EOS 5DS R will be available for purchase on Monday, June 29, 2015 at 12AM.</p>
<p>We currently do not know when or if preorders will happen before this date.</p>

More than likely all the first of the preorders will go out to reviewers, bloggers, youtubers and other "media" ...Probably a good thing, since we'll get more diversity in reviews. Will help real end users make informed buying decisions. Remember all, ignore the talk - get the RAW file. If the reviewers don't offer the actual RAW file, ignore.

Some complain about Canon's time frames. You could look at it as a good thing. They seem more cautious, unlike Nikon who rushes to release and puts out cameras requiring recall. Canon is also known to put out prototypes into the field - rather than beta test on end-users.

Being a conservative type company in the technology industry is tough, and Canon takes heat for going slower with innovation and release dates, but they do preserve their brand image. I don't think there is any argument that Canon has a better reputation as far as quality control goes.

I'm looking forward to the results.

Opinion here, but this is a decent indicator that we won't see a lower megapixel 5d replacement until much later in the year/early next year. It would cannibalize sales too much if they announced it anywhere near buying time for the old one. People will just wait. Slightly different market segments certainly, but not that different.

Too many whiners on the internet. I'm going to take a wait and see approach before picking one up. Besides I've been concentrating on light gear this year anyway. Saving up for some Profotos 8)

Yes Canon is cautious and as frustrating as it is, in many ways we benefit from that.

Okay, that means they won't be in the CPS loaner inventory until at least September. I'm interested in trying one out but, until I see what sort of DR they have, no sale. I definitely want more DR, not necessarily more pixels. It took months to get a loaner 5D MK III so I'm not optimistic.

5Ds and 5DsR sent me into a dilemma: Which one is the best suited camera for me ... I like sharpness and I hate artifacts like moiré!

I ordered a 2nd hand 5D mark i and must say: A real upgrade from APS-C cameras like 7D or EOS M in terms of IQ. Just tested it 2 hrs but the images are MUCH cleaner than Canon's APS-C systems.

And I will wait relaxed how the 5D line develops ...

Very similar in concept to when the 1DX was first announced and now, you can get a 1DX at a much discounted price. I bought a 1DX about a year after the release and saved over $1,500. Of course I had to wait, but I had other bodies to work with.

I will wait till the end of the year, hopefully 5d4 will be announced or new 1dx2. 5ds (with grip, and other accessories) closely gets to 1dx in terms of price. Will wait and see if it's better to save up some more and get best of the best with next 1dx or 5d4.

If you have a need to do sports photography the 1DX is an awesome camera. I would definitely buy one at $6K if I had paying gigs in that area.

I wonder how long it will take for Adobe to make a conversion profile for these cameras and their RAW files?
DNG isn't a work around anymore as it too needs a profile to process RAW. Maybe DPP will have theirs up and tested before the release date. Otherwise, just like the 7DMII know one can evaluate the testers results independently. Would be nice if Canon gave Adobe the camera specs early enough before release so both camera and processing options coincided.

Is anyone here actually going to buy one of these? I can't see the demand being huge, not with the 5D3 being had for close to $2K. They should have at least given it a better/bigger screen. It's a lot of coin to ask for a few more MPs.

I think pricing depends on the country where you live. In Germany the 5D iii is roughly 2500-2600 Euro and the 5Ds will be introduced at 3700 Euro - a narrower gap between the price of both cameras.

First I decided to buy the 5Ds ... ehm the 5DsR or ... the 5Ds ... so I cannot see a decision which body to buy.
I decided to buy a 5D i at ~500 Euro with a 2.5 year warranty a few days ago: IQ is so much better than EOS M or 40D. Because I like to use 2 identical bodies it is easier to me to decide for two 5D i than two 5Ds (perhaps adding two 5DsR for max resolution) which would lead to insane expenses.
