Canon 5D MK3 not as sensitive to reds?

Hey All,

So I've been shooting some long exposures over the motorways in Auckland and I've found that the red trails of the cars not to be as thick as my friends 650D who shot at the same settings. I'm wondering is it my sensor?

We were shooting F11, 30s and ISO 100. Has anyone else experienced this? I might be doing something wrong, or maybe it's the lens? I used the 16-35 F2.8 II and 50 F1.2. While my mate was using the 18-135 STM on his 650D.

RAW or JPG? What picture style? If RAW, converted with what (same for both)? Etc.?

It has been reported that the 5D MK III does not oversaturate the reds as badly as the 5D MK II and some of the earlier cameras.

Picture style was standard, shot in RAW.

I've asked my friend for a sample image from his 650D. Just need to wait for him to send it to me. It will shot in RAW with same settings and converted to JPEG in LR 4.1 as well.

Was this on Auto WB, by chance? The Mk III has a much more accurate Auto White Balance than previous Canons.

Yes this one was AWB. You think the lights are affecting the reds?

I think the AWB is showing an overall cooler white balance than older Canons. Open the raw file in Lightroom or another raw converter and warm up the white balance, and you'll likely see the old look that you expect.

I saturated the reds more in post and the look is closer to what I expected. This maybe contributing to my issue as well.

You maybe right. I see some improvement, I am going to try this shot again where there are no street lights and see what it is like.
