Just got new 17-40 f/4L packed with "EF lens" CD

Just got my new 17-40 f/4L lens to add wide angle capability for my 5D3. Now I can go wider than the 24-105 f/4L kit lens. Looking forward to running AF MA tests to see how it performs.

A first for me: the 17-40 was packed with a "EF lens" CD that has PDFs of user's guides for all Canon EF lenses. Saves Canon from publishing handy booklet size guide that can be easily stashed in my camera bag. Lens User Guides don't always have much in-depth info, except for speciality lens, like macro, tilt, etc. With PDF substitute, not as convenient as booklet size I've gotten with my previous lens purchases. Another cost-savings move by Canon.

I noticed that in the 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II USM I got yesterday. I love the approach... save money on printing/materials and put it back into the R&D canon clearly needs.

In this day and age, I'd just stick a URL to the user documents in the box and call it a day.

Damn it Canon! Quit putting R&D money into developing the best DSLR in the world! Gosh!

Reducing costs increases profits. If they wanted to increase the R&D budget then they'd have to accept lower profits. When it comes time for them to make the decision on allocating funds, these are two disjointed incidents.

Buy a 40mm pancake...the box is too small for a CD!

I just like they give you the Spanish one separately so you can recycle it and not have it taking up space.

Just don't do it with the Bodies canon and no one will get hurt

Yeah Canon wouldn't do it with bodies. I wonder if anyone reads lens user guides.

They started doing this almost two years ago, eventually, all of them will go that way.
