In this patent application (2024-043295), Canon is concerned about the AF performance of fast tilt-shift lenses. We have seen a steady progression on Canon's tilt/shift lenses that include internal tilt and shift and also auto-focus. This shows that the research is continuing in Canon and that they are considering all possible problems before it potentially comes to market.
IMO it looks like they tested some kind of a prototype of a AF tilt lens to notice this issue.
I'm very interested in the development of such kind of lens though I probably will never can afford it.

Will we ever see a new tilt/shift lens in the r mount ? seems like canon has been promising this for years !
Canon hasn't promised anything. Rumors are just that...rumors (though sometimes they are rumours, depending on where you live). Patent applications aren't promises, very few patents actually become products.
