Being a wide angle shooter with an occasional penchant for portraits, this lens seemed to fit the bill for me and despite it's hefty price, I'm convinced of it's excellence. I simply cannot believe how razor sharp it is at 1.4 let alone 2.8. Despite comments I've read to the contrary, this has the sharpness/clarity edge on the 35 1.4 (and I rate that lens very highly). The shallow DOF at that focal length has a particularly 'journalistic' effect which is truly wonderful.

Just thought I'd put it out there at how chuffed I am.

Sold!

I love mine too. The first sample I received had serious focus anomalies (would not focus at infinity at all and sometimes was in focus and sometimes miles out at other distances). The second is amazing. I too was surprised by how good it is at f1.4 and it focuses quickly and accurately every time. Edge performance is also very good indeed and much better than I had expected. I bought this lens for photojournalism and very glad I did.

This is such a cool lens!, I have been itchin to get one for along time!, but I have heard of so many people getting bad copies out there.

I think that is because people with proper working gear don't usually shout from the rooftops that their lens works like it was expected to. I have this lens. Works flawlessly on my 5DII and 7D without any micro focus adjusting.

I'd go into a store though and try a copy to make sure THAT LENS is within the tolerances of YOUR CAMERA.
