Given the recent announcement and the affordable price of a 6D with a 24-105mm kit, I'm starting to seriously consider the full benefits of a move from using a 450D with a 15-85mm to a 6D with the 24-105, specifically in terms of shooting in low light, depth of field and so on... Whilst I'm sure some will shout, buy a 5D III, but seriously folks, I'm not happy to invest that level of my cash into a camera, so... Please, given my current lens line up, consideration of keeping the 450D with the 10-22, perhaps trading my 15-85 & 18-55, what can I expect and are there any pitfalls I need to think about ?

I'm in the same boat as you, however I don't have as many lenses. Really other than cost of lenses and the body it will do everything better than our 450's do. I know people were wanting more out of the 6D but honestly, I'll probably get it because it will do everything I want it to do, better AF, FPS, image quality, iso performance, in camera features, wifi, semi metal body and weather proofing.

I do mostly landscape/family portraits and a few weddings a year so this will fit my bill perfectly. The other thing I'll buy with it is a grip.

I was looking at both the 6D and the 5d mk3. I ordered from Digital Rev and the 5d was only £2039 (£200 more then the WEX price of a 6D) that is a lot more camera for not much more. Not sure of it helps but it worked for me.

However, the 6D will be offered from DigitalRev at a similar discount ?

Speaking of which, where's the catch with buying from DigitalRev other than hassle sending stuff back if it is broken ?

No catch. For me they have good customer service. No tax (they pay it) and free delivery. Yes if something goes wrong it's a pain, but touch wood, that has never happened yet. They have been around long enough that need to keep their name, International sales is there business (mostly)

£2039 was a bargain, but you are right the 6d, will be cheaper there too.

Enjoyed your pics on flickr!

The 6D is directly targeted at photographers like you. Its a huge upgrade, so ignore the trolling posts.
As noted, get a external flash. Grab one of the refurb 430 EX II's now available for under $200 at Canon direct.

As for lenses, the 24-105 will replace some of your lenses nicely, but you may want a low light lens like a 50mm 1.8. You can grab one of those for $80 at the refurb sale as well.

To complete your range, the 70-300mmL is on reduced price at the refurb store for $1023. That might be more than you want to spend.

You might want to consider a 5D (mk1 or maybe mk2) if money is a factor. I upgraded from a 450 to a 5D and, believe me, the difference was (and still is!) massive. Am sure the 6D will be brilliant for you though, just thinking about the cost of a new camera versus one that's been out for a while.
cheers

Why downgrade?

Now, how this is a downgrade? explain!!

Tongue was in cheek, but how about flash sync speed for one.
Hardly a issue for a Rebel User who does not even own a flash.

In that case, I would suggest getting a flash, before upgrading the camera.

Several have suggested that, but the flash sync is still a issue for a very few people.
