5D iv Dual Pixel RAW files give an extra stop in the highlights

I am not sure if I understand this, but this seems interesting to me. Especially if LR eventually supports DP RAW files. Most of the time it seems like we look at the ability of a camera's sensor to recover shadows as a measure of dynamic range. But if the info is in the highlights, then there is no reason to underexpose everything by 5 stops.

It could be less to do with the sensor and as much to do with how the manufacturer sets up the metering algorithms.
The sensor records the data and the metering can be programmed to give you the equivalent of ISO100, f5.6 1/250 or ISO100, f5.6, 1/350 or ISO 100, f5.6 1/180

What looks like 'recovering highlights' is simply the programmer helping you not to blow the highlights.

A good example I have noted with my 7D2 (and others have commented with 6D and 1DX2 etc) is that images straight out of camera seem darker than with previous generations.

You then of course have other programming wizardry that could help the situation.
