I saw this "dark ring" issue with my 5D3 today.

I was shooting daffodils etc. in sunlight against dark backgrounds. I was shooting RAW + JPG.

Got them home, and saw dark borders around bright parts of flower petals etc.

Since I'd been shooting RAW too, I tried re-processing in camera and turned sharpness down to minimum and created another JPG.

Looked at that on the computer and the dark border was gone.

So I've reduced the sharpness setting on the camera now.

the in camera jpegs look a bit wierd to me, seems to be alot of softening and they look disappoining when viewed on a monitor (look fine on the camera screen) raws look fine in DPP though but ACR6.7 beta seem noisier than in DPP

dont know whats going on there. might just have to wait for adobe to get their act together with the raw converter for the mk3.

I dont really care that much about jpeg i might just turn off the in camera jpeg altogether and save card space for raws, probably something that can be fixed in firmware.

As long as the raws are clean and sharp i'm happy :D

Could you post a shot with the dark ring?

That dark border around the bright "shaft" thing - it wasn't really there and vanishes when you reduce the sharpness setting in the camera.

at least it is not in the RAW, but yeah, as I said in my earlier thread, they kinda mangled the in-cam sharpening algorithms, I got a lot of heat for daring to mention it too
