why not just order it from USA?

With shipping and the 5% credit card company's BS exchange rate it's the same price. I ordered from Canada Camera, so I don't have to pay PST (out of province) and I got a 16gb card included, so in the end it was cheaper for me to order from them vs. BH. BH was too expensive in this case, Canada ftw. zomg.

$1USD and $1CAD are damn close to par, but your credit card will take an exchange fee, f*ckers.

Just got off the phone with them, early April and $3799 Canadian...

Buy from Camera Canada, they're giving a free 16gb card with the camera. They told me mid to late March for delivery. Try the link off the front page from here. I got my 8-15 there, they seem to be a decent outfit. I called them once, a person answered, that's with a lot to me.

Camera Canada $3800
B&H USA $3500

How can they charge $300 more for the same thing? I know CC is giving a 16Gb card but that's $120...

Any reason NOT to send this camera to friends in Phoenix and have it mailed up to me?

3 of the 4 sellers are in the USA, lol, sh*t a$$ shopping sites.

Canadian stores are always slower in getting new products up. As of Friday evening (launch + 16 hours) we were listing 3 US stores and 8 Canadian stores.

Also, the price with taxes from the USA sites are questionable, I'de NEVER trust a shopping site to be correct when it come to any import taxes. Do those prices include brokerage fee?

Yes, all the calculations include brokerage fees, applicable provincial/federal sales taxes, duties, and a 3% credit card exchange margin.

e.g. (click the ? button)

$3499.00 USD
+$25.05 S&H
+$0.00 Duty
+$15.21 Brokerage Fee
+$454.87 Tax (13%, Ontario)
$3994.13 USD
x 1.0186 exchange rate (includes 3% CC fee)
= $4068.42 CAD

vs. $4292 cheapest Canadian option.

I posted this presviously a few days ago in another thread, but it's relevant here. This example was for Camera Canada which is the same price as Henry's but they throw in a CF card, so a better deal. But, still not as good as B&H.

B&H 5DIII Body Only

$3499.99
$189.82 (Boarder Fees, mostly the 5% GST $174.95)
$25.05 (S&H)
= $3713.87

Camera Canada 5DIII Body Only + Lexar 16 GB PRO 400X CF Memory Card
$3799.99
$190.62 (GST)
$13.44 (S&H)
-$69.00 (Lexar 16 GB Prov 400X - Their price is $119.99 for the card, but B&H sells it for $69.00)
=$3935.05

Price difference = $221.18 - 6% price difference, if I bought from a shop in my province, I'd have to add on another 7% PST.

Factoring in the exchange rate as of right now, it's essentially par $1 USD = $1 CAD. Also to avoid extra credit card fees on USD transactions, I use a Bank of Montreal USD Mastercard (Costs $25/yr, but free if you spend more than $1k/yr).

And this is why B&H makes it so painless to ship to Canada, I imaging they do a very good business shipping to here.

If you live in Canada as indicated above, a website I live by to check prices is www.photoprice.ca. No affiliation on my part, just a great site for price information. Because, while B&H often has cheaper prices than in Canada, that's not always true. In short, it pays to shop around online.

Ready to order by tonight. An in Canada. Just wanted to know based on past experience who would get this bad boy to me faster. I could use any of the US and Canadian sites as long as I get one delivered the quickest. In the states by preference is B&H. In Canada not so sure.

Keep in mind B&H will charge your credit card the full amount when you place the order, not just a temporary authorization as indicated at checkout. As far as I know, Adorama does not do this.

I ordered 5D3 last week, saw B&H hit my credit card over the weekend for the full amount, but I just checked my account today and the charge is gone. This confirms that B&H just did a pre-authorization in my case. What makes you say that they charge your card prior to shipping?

In the US, US online retailers cannot charge credit cards until the purchased item is shipped. Charging credit cards before shipping is a Federal offense and is considered mail fraud. B&H and Adorama can ill afford to have their online business shut down by US Treasury agents indefinetly.

I just checked the B&H website and here is a break down of the charges:

purchase price - $3499.00
shipping - $25.05
brokerage - $1.56
disb/handling - &14.65

Total - $3995.13

Shipping is by Purolator ground (2-5 business days). Given the current exchange rates, your credit card company could charge you as much as 1-1.5% exchange. I use Amex and typically, this is what Amex charges and does not charge any 3% fee(whatever that is). When Purolator delivers, there are no additional charges at the door.

I've orderd many times from B&H/Purolator and the service is cheap, trackable, fast and very reliable. I would not use UPS, FedX or USPS.

I forgot about the 3% CC exchange 'spread' but even so - the savings is still well worth it to shop USA. For a long time in Nov/Dec timeframe it was way cheaper for the 5D2's and kits out of Canada for some reason.

The warranties are North American and from what I have read you merely send it to Canon Canada for repair if need be.

Foreign exchange fee is 2.5% for majority of Canadian CCs (see the table: http://www.fcac-acfc.gc.ca/eng/resources/publications/paymentoptions/servicefees/CCSerFeesTab-eng.asp)

I preordered the MKIII kit on B&H and all said and done I was charged just under 5k in CAD.
