Long time Nikon shooter (D700's) just switched to Canon (2 5d3's). Love the new setup but having a hard time understanding what's going on with my metering. No matter which metering mode I'm using, it's consistently underexposing by about 2/3's to one full stop. I've done numerous tests putting both cameras' meters against my Sekonic so I'm not just looking at my lcd thinking it's dark. Unfortunately, Canon won't let me push my exposure comp in manual mode like my Nikon's would so anyone have any ideas how to fix? Haven't been able to find that many people are having the same issue but it's the same in both cameras so doubtful it's a solitary functional issue. Anyways, thanks in advance for the help.

If its off, ask Canon to adjust it. I haven't yet had time to fully check exposure out. I've seen a few underexposed and a few over, but most are pretty good. Better than my 5D MK II was. I have been caught by backlighting or having something bright in the image. Spot metering should fix that type of error.

You might also look at results with different lenses to see if there is a factor in choice of lenses. Their should not be, but a quick check might help discover something.

I have always shot my MKII -1/3 (sometimes -2/3) when I'm outside. My MKIII seems to be about the same. I just looked at some of the pics from a few weeks ago(shot outside) and when I was shooting Manual(obviously no exposure comp. available) pretty much everything looked good. I had some other shots that were taken with Shutter Priority and I shot those at -1/3 and they all looked good.

Had exactly the same problem. Befere i swtiched to canon i was i nikon user with d300 and d70. I got underexposed images by 2/3 with my 5d2 all the time. I put it against sekonic and did a white wall test as well. It was unaccteptable for me, so i sent it to service, however they reply that it was within canon tollerance. Uneblivable. If there is same issue with 5d3 it is really strange.
