Hi, I posted this in another thread but perhaps think it may get a better response here! I have a bit of an awkward decision to make..! I want this for 75% video, 25% photo. I can basically get the 600D body in the UK for £459 due to buying a KISS version in the UK.

Will the 650D really be much of an upgrade to justify spending £700 on the body in comparison? I like the fact it has autofocus but its not really a big play advantage really. I'm more interested in the better quality for video and potentially fixing moire and just generally having a newer camera.

What would you guys do? Also with the 600D I know for sure I'll get the 3x digital zoom.

Cheers, Ben.

The fact that you shoot 75% video, I would think the new AF system in the 650D would make it worth the higher price. There are also a few more improvements ;). Until there are some "real" in-depth reviews, we won't really know how well the "new" sensor performs compared to the 600D. Unless you have to purchase now, wait a bit for more accurate reviews of the camera are in, as well as more stable pricing (and possible deals). From what I've heard, the 600D isn't going to be discontinued and replaced by the 650. It's supposedly going to be sold along side it as the 550D has been to the 600 so no rush before all the 600Ds are gone.

If you're not keen on live af then the 600d will have higher quality video because it runs magic lantern right now, *the* killer feature for video, the hdr video feature alone outclasses much more expensive cams... http://magiclantern.wikia.com/wiki/Unified

I admittedly don't have a camera that runs ML, but agree it's a big plus for going Canon. But I'm sure there will be an ML upgrade for the 650D in the works soon (as well as for the 70D when it's released)

ML is essentially developed by a single person (Alex) atm, and the ml status on digic5 bodies like the 5d3 is essentially printing "Hello, World" on screen. So don't count on a non-paid project like this to persist developing with the same speed & quality, and don't expect all features available on the digic5. You may be lucky and it might take less than a year for the port, or it may not appear at all if the devs are offered paid jobs elsewhere.
