6D kit with 24-105 F4L for $2499 at Amazon

I just ordered mine and I cannot wait to get it!!! I think this is a steal.

Some questions...

How is this lens @24mm wide open and stopped down to f8 or so? I am a storm chaser and need the wide end to look good. I need my wide lens to be good in low light and in bright light.

How is the Canon 35mm f2 on a full frame?

What is a good ultra-wide third party lens for a full frame? I simply cannot afford the 14 f1.4L II right now.

Someone's bound to post that the 35 f2 isn't good enough for full frame.
Take a look at this, shot by us on the 35 f2 on a 5D mk1 before we got the 1.4

Although 35 isn't really ultra-wide, Sigma's 35 1.4 is supposed to be really good, and substantially cheaper than Canon's 35 1.4L. Autofocus might not be quite as accurate, but I imagine for storm pictures, it wouldn't be as noticeable as indoor action sports photos.

If you want wide, and not too expensive, and f/4 is fast enough, also consider the 17-40. That'll get you wider, just as much light, and I do believe a fair amount less distortion, although corner sharpness at f/4 might not be quite as good as the 24-105...

also also, what 16 1.4L II are you referring to? There's a 14 f/2.8L II, and a 16-35 f/2.8L II, that I am aware of...

Congrats on the 6D purchase, I have been looking at taking advantage of this price as well, pickup a backup lens for a steal.

As for the 24-105L, there is a fair amount of distortion at 24, but otherwise it's a stellar lens. It's a little bit older lens now, not quite as good as the new 24-70L (either the mkII or IS) most likely, but still a great lens, and probably the best deal to be had in Canon glass for this price.

As for wide angles, I can't comment on the 35/2.0, but I do have the 28/1.8 which is quite good on full frame. I also have the 17-40L and would recommend that if f/4.0 is sufficient.

Testing by lens rentals and tdp show that the 24-70 is isn't better than anything. Check for yourself. It's the most ridiculous lens release in years.

I'm not sure which lensrentals site you go to but the one run by Roger Cicala tested the 24-70 f/4 IS and reported that it had the lowest distortion of all the 24-70 zooms and it was sharper than all of them except the Canon 24-70 2.8 II.

Of course, at $1500 you might as well just save several hundred and buy the Tamron, which is only marginally less sharp and gives an extra stop of light.

For storm chasing, is weather sealing going to be a high priority? If so, that would rule out most or all of the 35mm lenses. I don't think any of these are weather sealed: Canon 35/2, Canon 35/2 IS, Canon 35/1.4L or Sigma 35/1.4. I don't think the Zeiss and Samyang 35's are weather sealed either, but they are manual focus so maybe they are less affected by rain.

Those look great, but are they stitched from several frames? They don't seem to have the standard 3:2 aspect ratio. They also look wider than 35mm.

Most places have the combo deal for $2499. Its a good deal.
The 35mm f/2 is a good low priced lens, the 5 blade aperture causes hex shaped highlights, thats the main weak point.

Thanks for the replies every one. I got the EF 16-35 f2.8L II before the rebate expired. I am guessing it will serve my needs just fine.
