7DII w/300+1.4 vs 5DIII w/300+2.0 comparison

Hi all,

I mentioned this prior to the release of the 7DII but does anybody have any site that will show me a comparison between the 7DII and 5DIII using a 300mm on both but with a 1.4x conveter on the 7DII and a 2x converter on the 5D?

My thinking is that the increased AF and IQ using just a 1.4x may just about offset the 5DIIIs FF advantages, particularly in my often reach-limited situations.

Which 300mm? If you mean the 300/4L IS, I expect the 7DII + 1.4x would have an advantage. If you mean the 300/2.8L IS II in your signature, I think the 5DIII + 2x would be better, although in truly reach limited situations the differences would be small.

Thanks Neuro - yes ideally a comparison with 300II. I have no reason to doubt you but have you seen any review or site that has actual examples so I can see with my own peepers what sort of difference we are talking about?

I think the 5D III + 300 2.8 +TC 2x would be the best choice.
However if you are considering the 300 f4 + tc 1.4 on the 7d II why don't you try the 400mm 5.6? I think it will perform a lot better.

I haven't, and I doubt we will. Best option may be to rent/borrow a 7DII and 1.4xIII and try it yourself.
