Any rumors on a new fullframe body for Canon?

Hi, I'm kinda in the middle of deciding on buying a full frame body. I'm strongly leaning towards a 6D, but being a 2012 body, I was wondering if 2014-2015 would bring a new fullframe. If so, I rather wait some more and buy a more recent body.

I know no one wants to buy something only to have it become obsolete a week later... or spend the same amount as the updated model which is more feature rich.

Having said that... the 6D doesn't stop taking quality photos.

But to answer your question, the only full frame making a blip on the map is the big sensor... 3D maybe... who knows... but the 6D isn't likely to get replaced... I would guess the 6D has a longer lifespan than the 5D mkiii...

Is there something the current FF offerings won't accomplish?

Well, not long ago I saw rumors about 5dmk4 in early 2015. And that is what I hope for. I do not consider 6D as I think they have cut too much to get a cheapest FF offer. It is great for some people, not for others. I do prefer to pay more and get better featured camera. So if budget allows and waiting at least half year not a problem – I would highly recommend 5dmk4 over current 6d. And if I would buy FF today – I would definitely prefer 5dmk3.

If there is a announcement next May, then plan on waiting another 3 months to get your hands on a camera. Seldom, if ever has Canon started shipping a 5D or 1D series camera right after they announced it. Nikon usually starts shipping right away, because they start production well before a announcement. Its also a likely reason for all the leaks of new products. Canon seems to start production either just before or about the time they announce.

That's why I think production has been under way for the 7D, its a CR III rumor because it has leaked, and that normally means its in production.

There you go, I have a 5D3 - but if the 6D had been available when I made the jump to digital, that's what I would have bought. It's an excellent camera.

That doesn't mean I'm unhappy with the 5D3, nor does it mean I want to swap for a 6D! ;D

You dont say what type of photography you favour the 6D is great for landscape, travel photography and general family / portrait shots. If your into sports, concerts or wildlife go with the Canon 5D MKIII. IQ wise their is nothing in it between the two in real world terms (testers claim the 6D is slightly better in low light).

7D has MANY more focus points, and way faster fps than 6D. IQ-wise, my 6D wipes the floor with my 7D without breaking even the slightest sweat. I've become so spoiled by 6D IQ that I find myself instinctively trying to capture moving subjects - birds, mostly, that I'll NEVER be good enough to capture with it, than just grab my 7D: despite its still-great specs and features it has become just a second body, emergencies only, for me. Unless all you shoot are fast-moving subjects, you will find yourself pretty pleased with the 6D - and still have some cash left for another lens or flash or plane ticket...
