I bit the bullet and ordered from Camera Canada. The price is much more than US shops, but they include a free 16 GB CF card with the first 100 pre-orders. I would have purchased from a US store, but I suspected customs / duty would have applied, making the US price about equal to the Canadian.

Anyone know more about this stuff?

I do not believe you get dinged with customs if you buys from B&H. Infact B&H calculates all payables before shipping out. They are very good. But by the time you calculate the CC surcharges the diffrence is not more the 200 after tax between the US and Canada.

+1

From BH it will cost you more. I ordered from Camera Canada. Go to BH and shop a 5d3 in to your cart, use purolater and add the duties, get the total, phone your credit card and ask the exchange. It's not worth it, besides, why not buy it in Canada? I'm sick of buying stuff from the USA, support the shops here, keep them open.

The bonus for me is that I'm not in Ontario, so, no PST when I buy from Camera Canada.

You get a 16gb card from Camera Canada too. Use it or sell the card.

I live in Montreal, and was about to pre order mine (to replace my beloved 5d MK I) from camera Canada BUT ever with customs and shipping it is cheaper with B&H ( in CA$ it is3,456.61 $).

So I sent an email to cameracanada to tell them how much I was disappointed with the price and pre order it with B&H.

They are taking care of customs so there is no hidden fee. I already bought 2 expensive lenses from them and was very very happy. So for 300$ less I took my chances.

I just called Henrys, and they have 4 preorders for the mkIII . . . the price is 3899. They are asking for $500 deposit. I told them I'll think about it ::) (April mid May availability they just added the code to their computer systems today)

@3500 clean I did not mind too much . . .but after you add a grip and taxes, another 1500 will get you a 1Dx. 2 5DmkIIs even (if ISO and AF is not much of a problem for you)

i'm from Montreal, and ordered from B&H too at 00:45... never had bad experience and surprise with taxes and customs fees.
Lozeau is asking 3999$ and all others 3799$ !
i normally prefer to buy local... but there is a limit to be F... it's a huge difference after both taxes here in Qc.

I too, am from montreal. I checked out the prices on Henrys then checked B&H....

B&H
SubTotal $3499.00 (US? already clicked canada doesn't specify)
Customs CLearence $184.41
shipping $25.05
total $3,708.46 (+tax...~200) = $3,908.46

Henrys
Subtotal $3,799.99 (CAD)
Shipping $0
Taxes $190.00
Total $3,989.99

Then, I went to my local camera store (Camtech Photo)... from whom I've bought a couple of lenses from at the best prices...

Camtech Photo
Told me $3900.... then told me that that wasn't the final price but they would know on monday and would call me then...they expected it to be much less then that (~3600 I'm thinking???) ... and they went and checked all of the sites for me...and said that they would definitely be lower then that...

So, I've supported my local business and left a $100.00 deposit with them to put me as #3 to have pre-ordered a 5DmkIII from them. (they did say that if i decided not to want the camera they would give me my deposit back and no big deal)

Hopefully they will be just as quick as the online dealers, and I will have supported a local, canadian business.. :)

Buying from BH is cheaper. I ordered the body and the kit.

I'm in Ontario and HST is 13%
Camera Canada is listing the kit price at 4600 + (*1.13) = 5200 Canadian Dollars

BH I paid 4909 US included tax and duties = 4857 Canadian

Generally speaking everything is more expensive in Canada than US anyways.

B&H 5DIII Body Only

$3499.99
$189.82 (Boarder Fees, mostly the 5% GST $174.95)
$25.05 (S&H)
= $3713.87

Camera Canada 5DIII Body Only + Lexar 16 GB PRO 400X CF Memory Card
$3799.99
$190.62 (GST)
$13.44 (S&H)
-$69.00 (Lexar 16 GB Prov 400X - Their price is $119.99 for the card, but B&H sells it for $69.00)
=$3935.05

Price difference = $221.18 - 6% price difference, if I bought from a shop in my province, I'd have to add on another 7% PST.

Factoring in the exchange rate as of right now, it's essentially par $1 USD = $1 CAD. Also to avoid extra credit card fees on USD transactions, I use a Bank of Montreal USD Mastercard (Costs $25/yr, but free if you spend more than $1k/yr).

And this is why B&H makes it so painless to ship to Canada, I imaging they do a very good business shipping to here.

A little follow up.
Like I said earlier I pre order it at B&H (at midnight on the release date).

My Credit Card has been charge yesterday and the price (with Federal + QC taxes and shipping) is 3885,66 CA$.
I wrote to some Canadian Stores and still waiting for an explanation about the price (I am sure that is Canon fault).

I waited 5 years before upgrading my beloved 5D classic but now I am counting the days :P !

CDN down significantly today. So the price cap will reduce.

Significantly is subjective I guess. It's down a penny. Of course the dollar dropping a penny is 1% so yes that has to be factored into all purchases.

Although, I just checked my $3713.87 B&H price I quoted above and as of this moment to exchange CAD to USD for that amount would cost me $3755.09 CAD right now on XE Trade. Still $180 cheaper than the best price I can get in Canada.

I was going to preorder from weither Henrys or Vistek, but I have decided to wait for in store shopping instead . . I figure it is best to do these things like we did in the good ol days of shopping, and NOT let the manufactureers brainwash us with marketing genious and hype . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

My advice for Nikon and Canon shooters: do not rpeorder! wait for an actual release and then decide what's best. See for yourselves what is the best system for you and see if all the negatives you read about in the www are true or misleading or simply, whatever they are, a result of morons reaching conclusions where there need not be one so hastily.

Don't listen to the "fro Knows" moron who says stuff like "I know a guy that used it hands on. . ." yet he's the one making the danmed video "review."

. . . and for Pete's sake stop looking at all these online samples of ISO this and ISO that. . . . this is soft and that is soft. . .

. . . just wait to get your own hands on the damn thing and take some test shots in the store and see how the camera responds to YOU.

I'm through with this online shindig!

P.S> the Brant Stirton images . . . what a poor excuse for samples! The faulty focus on the oysters, and on the 2 men working the nets . . . don't waste my time, Mr. Pro! NEw AF on final production model?????? Well then use the damn new AF, or stay home next time!!
