I have a dew heater strip for my 8 inch scope, plugs into a 12VDC receptacle (cigarette lighter socket). I bought a small 6 volt battery, connected a 12VDC receptacle to it and wrap the heater strip around the lens, held in place with one of my wife's hair scrunchies. Lasts all night and keeps the lens quite dry, but I have to be sure to check focus after wrapping it. I had previously tried the strip-wrap-on-lens with the usual 12 volts but it got a tad too hot for my liking. Also tried a turn signal flasher relay in series with it to give about a 50% duty cycle. It worked, but looked and sounded ridiculous. Saw the sealed lead-acid 6 volt battery on a shelf in a local Academy Sports, meant to power an automated feeder of some sort and cost all of 10 dollars. 'twas an aha! moment. If you don't want to buy a dew heater strip (Mr. Bean's post) you could make a resistor ladder....but those Dew-Not's he referred to are a good price and work quite well.
