This morning I managed to get some "mid" pics of a Belted Kingfisher. She was so far away, I had to crop extensively. One of these days I'll try a hide technique to see if I can get one to get closer to me.

The Brown Violetear is one of five species of hummingbird in the genus Colibri. They are characterized by patches of violet feathers, auriculars, covering the ear openings, hence their name. Large and fiercely territorial, these hummingbirds raise these patches when signaling to or fighting with others. This male was photographed during an intense stare-down while birding at La Florida, Bosque de Las Aves, at km 18, Colombia, November, 2025.

Most hummingbird species exhibit marked sexual dimorphism. The plumage of the Andean Emerald, however, is very similar except that the crown is blue on the male and green on the female. This male Andean Emerald was seen while birding at La Florida, Bosque de Las Aves, at km 18, Colombia, November, 2025.
