Buy it from Amazon or BH.

If they don't ship to UK then get yourself an address from forwarding company like Myus.com and they will ship it to you for $100 or less.

Amazon or BH > Myus > you

I've never even heard of this type of thing. Wont I still end up getting taxed if I use the forwarding company? If I fly somewhere surely I can just pick it up and fly back and leave the box behind.

That swiss comparison link...

5D3 body From 3'233.19 EUR

Save 350-400....hardly US prices my dear chap.

I suppose what stops people buying in US is losing Warranty, possible customs interception and messy US-Uk adapter.

now everyone is taking premium for 5D3 ..if u look at the price for D800 it is less than 2800USD..so better wait for a week or month sure you can buy from swiss..

The answer is... probably. I live in the UK and spend a lot of time (and money) in the US. Shipping over here is liable for searches. If the item has a declared value of over £23, it's liable for import tax. This is the VAT, a handling fee of £18 by parceforce for "holding", and any other duties they feel like adding. Seriously. I've ordered a $60 Art print before, and had to pay £33 in release fees.

IF the item is marked as a gift, then it is not liable to those taxes (although for an item worth thousands, this might change, I don't know). You would still be best advised to insure it, and ship via fedex or something - if you expedite next day or the day after, it's more expensive, but less likely (statistically) to get held at customs, because the parcel company is liable for the delay in delivery.

I've pre-ordered, and got it shipped to my friends in the states. The conversion difference, after NY tax of 10%, is still £600. That's enough for a cheap weekend trip to NY, pick it up, bin the box and come back through with it over your shoulder.... not that I suggested it.

Hey. I'm new here but just want to tell that it's a big investment in Norway, too .... $ 1 = 5.6 NKR ....
Then there will be approximately $ 5,350
:o

Amazon don't seem to list the new 5D3 yet, but instead are showing other retailers @ US$4700 (£2999)

http://www.warehouseexpress.com/buy-canon-eos-5d-mark-iii-digital-slr-camera-body/p1530010?go=kits_bundles&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=canon%205D%20mark%203&utm_campaign=Cameras%20/%20Canon%20Digital%20SLRs&cm_mmc=google%20Warehouse%20Cameras%20And%20Lenses-_-Cameras%20/%20Canon%20Digital%20SLRs-_-Digital%20SLRs%20/%20Canon%205D%20MK%20III%20-%20Exact-_-canon%205D%20mark%203

However, on a positive note, we are finally starting to see 5D2 new prices tumble e.g.:

It might be cheaper still for a British buyer to fly Ryanair to Dublin and pick up the new model in the City Centre from one of the shops there, for example @ EUR 3499 = 2900, you'll cover the cost of your flights + a few drinks + have a day out to shoot with your new camera (providing you bring your own lens)... se below

Am I right in thinking you have some harsh taxes in Norway? I know motorbikes are crazily expensive there, like £35,000 for a Fireblade?

I don't know about UK, but you can ask that company to mark it as gift and lower declared value by 25%, and if you are willing to discard the box they will do it for you.
