I've managed to talk down a seller of a 5dmk2 from $1600 to $1450.
The camera has had about 10,000 actuations (I will check this when I go to see it) and the camera was bought in europe a couple of years ago.

This seems like a great price to me.

What should I be looking for when inspecting the camera before purchase?

Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

Take a picture which is very very unsharp, very bright, at ISO 100, using the highest aperture to check how many dirt the sensor have.

does it have an original canon battery and stuff like that

are there any scratches on the LCD

maybe you want to set "manual sensor cleaning" to check if everything with the sensor is ok (maybe the camera was modified for Infrared photos or something like that.

When I buy a used camera body, I check for the following:

AF accuracy

Body condition

All buttons, scroll wheel, joystick work properly

Battery condition

Accessories, to make sure all items discussed are included
With the 5D mk ll, you'll need a computer (at least, that is the impression I am under) to check the shutter count. I use(d): http://astrojargon.net/40DShutterCount.aspx?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1

Simple to use, and gives you a solid number. Yes it says 40D, but it works for the 5D and 5D ll wonderfully.

The advice on checking for dust, posted by Vamp898 is great advice. A trick I use on my own bodies every now and then to assure perfect working order.

Congrats on the nice price!
