I got a 5D MK 3 on preorder, but keep thinking its a hell lot of money to spend on a camera in this level, I am still hugely dissapointed with the 6fps, but figure I should be able to get by. I have since seen 1D MK4 cameras for sale in around the same price range, what would the readers here choose and why? (I figure ill still get the 5D).

Yep though choice.

I would expect the AF of the 5D Mark III to be better (on paper this is)
And if focal lenght is no issue, then the images out of the Full Frame is great.

For some reason the images form the 5D Mark II look better then the images from the 1D Mark IV.
However this is personal.

Also the 1D Mark IV is not very good with AF in low light.

But still a hard desicion....good luck

I am in the same exact boat, and have to act soon before the camera arrives on my door step. I am leaning towards a 1D III or 1D IV. I already have a 5D II and want the III mainly for weather sealing and silent shutter, but i think for the money spent it would be better to get the 1D IV.

It's all about what you shoot and what you need your camera to do, and also what lens you have or ones that you are willing to get with your camera.

I shoot outdoors in all kinds of weather, so i am wondering if the weather sealing will be good enough for me. I wonder if i can shoot under an umbrella in crazy rain without much else protecting me, i know the 1D's can and my 40D is better sealed than my 5D II.

I would like to hear if anyone has used the 1D IV with the 100-400mm L, because that is what i will be mainly using. I think using the 100-400 on a full frame could produce some amazing photos though!

Be real careful with 100 400 zoom. It is very bad with rain. Basically it is not sealed so any rain drops on the barrel slide into the lens. Mine is in the shop because of water damage. You must have a water proof sleeve, like a rain coat, put over the lens our be prepared to lose it.
