interesting pricing dilemna for Canon marketeers. How close to the full frame pricing model can a "professional" crop body skate? Given that the 7D was introduced shy of $1800 and all Canon "new" products have been
substantially higher than the predecessor, you would predict a $2250-2500 announce price. That would overshadow the 6D, but perhaps could be justified as a "mini" 5DMkII if it had similar or improved features. There's a bottom set by the new 70D at $1300 and you could argue that a 7D could be slotted in between the
70D and the 6D at the $1600-$1800 price point. Time will tell us just how "proud" Canon is with it's latest
offering.

A little surprised so many think it is going to be so reasonably priced considering some of the "mini 1D X" posts we have had over the past few months.

Plus if this is going to be a "flagship" as in a APS-C flagship should that not (in part) make it more expensive than the 5D Mark III?

Expect 7D MII to be close to 2500 unless Canon goes the route of mini-1Dx. I think it will start high and then within 6 months drop. Might as well extract as much money from all those who must have it right away

It will be $1799.00 US when released.... but keep in mind that I have a perfect record when predicting camera release prices.... wrong every time!
I'm with you Don. I think it will definitely come in within the $1500 - $1900 dollar range in the poll. Toward the higher end as you suggest. That will put it several hundred over the original 7d release price but will keep it under the $2,000 range where it should be. No need for Canon to abandon that range between the 70d and the 7d... it's a range that just makes good sense... At least my wallet thinks so! Hope we're right!

As a side note, I was off by $100 on the 70D, I was $100 too high... Anyway, at that range the new 7D Mk II will still hold the slot as the APS-C Flagship for Value added and price!

Here's to hoping!! ;D

This is actually a good point. Canon may actually think it's a $16-1700 camera, but they'll price it at $21-2200 in that case, because early adopters will pay it, and others will wait 6 months for it to be $1800.

Same thing happened with the 5DIII and 6D.

Heh, I like that the first option starts at "$0". :D I wonder if a better range might have been $500-$1499 or something like that.

Anyway, I'm very curious to see how this one turns out. Its clear more people think Canon is either going to needlessly suck them dry with a higher price, or bump the model up to a higher tier worth of the price...but it will be interesting to see if it lands in the same spot as its predecessor (and whether it lands there with a significant upgrade in featuerset/capability or not.)

No, $0 makes sense. After all, if Canon doesn't improve the DR of the 7DII sensor, they won't even be able to give them away... ::)

I was one of the early adopters of the 7D, paying $2300 AUD for it (with Canon spare battery and 16GB CF card, plus warranty). I have not looked back since, though - worth every cent.

When the 7DmkII comes out, if it has following features, I'll happily pay around same price ($2300 AUD) for the body only:
- cleaner sensor (at both low ISO and high ISO)
- improved frame rate - to 10fps
- improved AF (more points, slightly better accuracy, speed is good)
- the new dual pixel live view AF / video AF
- lower banding
- somewhat more DR (if possible)

Above I wrote "when... released" - I realise I could have written "if... released" but I'm hoping it's a when... and soon!

I'm very happy with the 7D, the only real improvement I'd really like to see is the sensor. Otherwise I'll just buy another 7D!

Well, there goes my argument then! I didn't realize they sold body only for that much when they first released the 7D. It was out about 6 months before I bought one... Sorry!
