Finally!

I’ve received good info that production samples of the Canon EOS-1D X have begun shipping to preselected lucky photographers. I’m told it’s for Euro 2012 and Olympic photographers, so they can get familiar with the camera.

Things are still listed as June 2012 for shipping to the rest of us.

So this must mean any day now we can download the manual and see some sample production RAW's....

This is good! Unsurprisingly B&H still lists the 1DX as being on backorder.

But I'm so pleased with the 5D3 I'm 50/50 to cancel the pre-order for my 1DX. I just want to see how the 5D3 handles with the BG-E11 grip (when it eventually ships). So far it's just great teamed up with the Mk4.

This morning I shot a 50 minute breakfast meeting of brain surgeons (really!) for an online newsletter. No flash. The boardroom checked out fine to shoot at 3200iso. But 2 minutes in they dropped the lights right down for a 45 minute presentation. I took a deep breath, cranked the 5D3 up to 12,800iso, and am now able to deliver perfectly useable images after careful PP in LR4. Very cool.

But I've always been a 1-Series guy...the 1DX may be irresistible.

I got my 5d3 from Adorama almost as soon as it started shipping without any prior 'pre-booking' so I am quite positive about getting the X without delays too...
And for Mr. X I have pre-booked with my new hot favorite store - ADORAMA.
Canon did ship out reasonable quantities of 5d3's at start so am hoping they would do the same with Mr. X. :)
