I thought I would start this as a new topic so others that have this problem are able to find it more readily. As others have pointed out, a camera that costs this much should not creak when handled. It would never be noticed except in a quiet room but I really didn't like it.

My camera did not have any creak for over 30 days. I suspect that the problem will possibly occur in the M6 also but since that body is a bit smaller, it may not.

My initial solution posted in the M5 review thread was a post-it note insert. I then tried an acetate sheet which wasn't quite as noticeable but still had more residual creak than I liked. This is my latest and last fix and it works on my camera pretty well. I can push around and hear a slight creak but have to work at it. When I pick it up in a normal fashion I don't hear anything. The thin strip by the grip area seemed to work.

The dimensions I used are in shown in picture 1. Picture 2 shows the 10mm x 20mm portion inserted by the battery box and the thin portion yet to be fully placed. Picture 3 shows how the thin strip fits at the grip area. A tiny bit was still sticking up so I carefully trimmed it with a razor sharp knife blade so the battery compartment lid did not bind up...be careful about that. Sending it to Canon Service to open the battery compartment would not be a good thing.

I hope this helps others!

In my case, the creaking happens more on the side plate of the grip (as shown in the picture), pretty much where the WiFi button and HDMI connection is. When I grab and touch it in that area, it may "creak" a bit. It feels like the plastic part is waaay too thin there (and may bend a little bit to the inside).

Better engineering plastic or even something like a magnesium alloy reinforcement under the plastic part would be the solution I guess, even if that'd add a few extra ounces (which would be OK). But that's really the only downside of my EOS M5.

And yeah, the bottom plate would be better with a "crinkly" finish, instead of such a clean surface (which is much more prone to scratches). But that's only a minor con. Only the creaking on the grip is a bit disappointing. Everything else is really excellent.

Hi Crosswind, Most of the creak in my camera disappeared with only the large tab inserted, but I still had the same side creak you describe. My new, improved DIY fix seemed to stop that but, I only have a statistical sample of one :-). Using the clear plastic makes it virtually an invisible fix, so you are not reminded of it every time you change cards or the battery.

I agree that it is a very nice little camera and I will use it a lot on 6-8 mile hikes that are not specifically hikes taken for photography opportunities.
