Canon EOS R5 Mark II: Firwmare v1.1.1 Release

Since I generally read the forum in the evening on my iPad, I prefer the confirmation step. It reduces how often my fat fingers "press" the like or reply "keys" unintentionally.

Hello.
I've noticed that after the firmware update (or maybe it's due to another reason?) the configuration/settings backup files have become almost 8 times smaller. The settings files I saved in June and July are 3675 KB, while the settings files created in August are only 475 KB. Can anyone confirm this? Is the reason the new firmware, which saves the settings with a different algorithm, or could it be that I changed something in my camera's settings?

Shoopea - just in case you didn't do this ... I always use the simplest method
for any camera firmware updates. Which means I download the update (and
extract if necessary), transfer the update to a just formatted SD card, put the
updated card in the camera, and, with NO other connections of any kind (not
even power I just use a fully charged battery) ... do the update taking extra
time at each step to simply wait for stuff to "settle down" before I do anything
like check if the update went OK, use the camera, etc.

If you haven't tried this I suggest you try removing the battery (and any
cable to power), let the camera sit unpowered for a couple of minutes,
replace the battery (and look for the red light to flash - if it doesn't then
charge the battery before proceeding) and wait 30 secs before trying to
power on.

Hope you have it working. If not after all the above I'd call/chat with
Canon support.

Just to give an update. As nothing made the r5m2 power back on, I had to send it back to canon's servicing center. It wasn't under warranty in my geographical region so they charged me 890eur to replace the motherboard.
They did not even bother to flash it to v1.1.1 and it was sent back to me as v1.0.x (can't remember exactly the version number).
I was able to seamlessly update it back to v1.1.1 this time round ..

Just received my R5 MK2, it has the v1.03 firmware should I update it to v1.11 or there is a major drawback that should prevent me from updating?
I have updated my 2 R5 II cameras. No issues at all , after 3 weeks and thousands of pictures. Everything worked perfectly for me. Yet, since I take mostly landscape or architecture pictures, I cannot speak of AF's behaviour under difficult conditions.

Like Del Paso mentionned, I haven't had a single issue since upgrading.
I would recommend using the app to do it : somehow I couldn't the 1st time and ended up bricking it, but after receiving it back from repairs the app worked and the update went fine.

Eloniel,
As with all electronic devices that have any kind of update process - my standard practice is to
ALWAYS update to the latest level during my initial use of a recently acquired device. Always.
My only exception to that would be if the most recent update available is -very- new (last few
days) or has already seen reported problems - this is very rare because usually any company
will have an even later update available before I ever get around to checking for the 'latest'.
However - I also -never- update "as soon as an update has been released" and instead wait
for reports of "no problems". :-)

Hi everyone,
I’ve noticed that the Canon R6 Mark III has the COLOR / RATE button that lets you quickly switch Color Modes, Picture Styles, and Custom Picture profiles.
Do you know if Canon plans to add this feature to other cameras, such as the EOS R5 or R5 Mark II, through a future firmware update?
Has anyone heard anything official (or unofficial) from Canon about this?

Canon almost never made such dramatic changes in the past, so the probability is very low.

I’m curious why there’s total silence about this fact here and on DPReview. By the way, it seems to have fixed that nasty Error 70 issue in Multiexposure mode that I used to encounter.
I didn't even realize there was a new firmware release, I was kind of relying on this thread for that but maybe I missed it or I'm following the wrong one.

But thanks to those who updated me!
