I am not sure if anyone has mentioned this. If you are shooting video on the R5m2 you can pull the rear screen away from the body and extend the heat shutdown slightly. The plate behind the screen gets very warm when recording.

Just came back from a recent trip with my R5MK2. I ran into an issue that is quite concerning when using the Sandisk SDXC V60 Cards. Due to an error on my part, I was not recording to the CFEXPRESS card for the first day. A high number of images, maybe 10-15% are in some way corrupted. They show up in Lightroom but show as corrupted. This happened when shooting burst. Is this an issue with the V60 card or something else. Having come from the 5DMK4 I had no issues with even V30 cards in the past.

I would assume a problem with that specific card. I suppose it’s possible the camera only flips into the high speed mode (ie using the extra pins) for SD cards when doing a burst and something is up with those data lines (whether on the card or camera)

My first experience is a little bit ambivalent
Eye-AF is not working properly on my progressive lenses, just on one of my single vision glasses. Works ways better on my R3. Having no problems switching the AF point with my eye.
When the AF fixed an eye, it moves away from it after 2-3 seconds - even if the bird sits still.
Heavy battery drain (wrote another post in the forum)
The frontgrip gets very warm.
Recording pre-burst shots, the Body hung up 2 times when recording it to my CF-Express card (Lexar professional 1750MB/s)

Hoping, all these first experienced issues are blown away by coming firmware updates.

Question to all: Which video/article do you think is good for shooting birds on the R5 Mk II ?? (found one from Mr. Wegner/australia and Wild Alaska)

Eye-AF is not working properly on my progressive lenses, just on one of my single vision glasses. Works ways better on my R3. Having no problems switching the AF point with my eye.

Wegener's settings on the whole correspond to the ones I use and find satisfactory.

My R5 Mk I still locks up regularly even with all firmware updates applied. I sincerely hope they can fix it on the R5 Mk II but I'd temper my expectations.

Let's hope they investigate a proper fix this time around, given that the R1 probably shares some of the firmware code. I think it would really be a problem for Canon if the R1 locks up / hangs in the hands of professional users.

Yes, this would be an hung-up-Gate for Canon.
But honestly: why just for R1 users? For this price, I think I can expect an working body - especially when Canon advertises this feature.
Perhaps well-known online portals/sites/magazines will have to do some "bashing" and this issue will receive a lot of "dislikes" or whatever the youth like to call it these days. Then Canon will take action.

Of course, but R1 users = professional action photographers using it as a tool. At least that's the target market, I think. If these people miss the shot, it's gone and they lose money. And they will switch back to their reliable 1Dx (or longterm to a different brand).

Wealthy amateurs and non-action pros can deal with the occasional lockup. It'll ruin some moments but not in a critical your-livelyhood-depends-on-it manner.

Is the speed of the card, 1750MB/s, burst speed or continuous, also how much is the rate you are shooting at equals to?

As far as I know, no Canon camera can write to CFe faster than 500MByte/s, so card speeds beyond that are purely for amusement.

Yeah, didn't know that before, however, the key is Sustained Write Speed, not burst.

Yes! Since a year or two, most large capacity cards list 800mbyte/s sustained or boast the VPG400 certification , so you won’t be limited by the card.
But always check the specs first and then try to find actual reviews!

The problems with heavy battery drain, storing and an buzzing inside seemed to come from an hardware defect on the mainboard. I returned the body and ordered a new one.

Yes, I have the same issue. The problem existed even I'm not shooting at H+ mode. A simple sunrise landscape shoot also encountered the same problem. Hopefully, they will address it on a firmware update.

Hey, on my R5 I set the dials to have aperture on the front main dial, ISO on the top rear and shutter for the thumb wheel.

On the R5II now, Canon swapped the options for the 2 tops wheels! Why!?! So now when I use both cameras my ISO and aperture are swapped and opposite on each one. I can't understand why they wouldn't just keep them the same. R6II has the same options. Do they really want me to upgrade 2 cameras just to have the dials match?

Canon, please fix this. There should be equal options available on all dials so we can set it up any which way. Why lock us out of dial options...

I like it on the R8, since it enables all modes on the dial for video, but on the model-dial-less R5II, I am now limited to C3 for video. Unless, as you say, I let go of the lens or camera to move the switch.

Another thing that keeps tripping me up is that changing video settings requires an extra ‘OK’ for the settings to actually change, it’s not like most settings that apply immediately when changing them.
Changing the AF zones has a similar re-confirmation

I agree, I used that button all the time to switch. I don't hate the dedicated switch to be honest but would have been nice to keep the other option.

You can’t customize them to do whatever? I’ve never seen a 1, 3 or 5 series that can’t do this.

I've never customized those, I just learned what they do by default and left it. It may be a bug, perhaps it will be fixed in the next firmware release.
