Canon EOS R50 V Specifications

Totally missed that Canon finally allowed Sigma to produce lenses for the RF mount so I guess upgrading from the M6 II is fairly easy then:

Buy:
R50V
Canon RF‑S 10–18mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM or Sigma RF-S 10-18mm f/2.8 DC DN (favoring the Sigma for obvious reasons)
Canon RF-S 20mm f/1.4L VCM
Canon RF 28mm F2.8 STM Pancake (for keeping it small)
Sigma RF-S 30mm f/1.4 DC DN
Sigma RF-S 56mm f/1.4 DC DN

Keep:
Canon EF‑S 55–250mm f/4‑5.6 IS STM with RF Adapter

Sell:
M6 II
Canon EF-M Adapter
Canon M 11–22mm f/4.5-5.6
Canon M 22mm f/2.0
Canon M 32mm f/1.4 STM
Sigma M 56mm f/1.4 DC DN
There is no RF-S 20mm 1.4L VCM
Canon crippled the "-S"!

Those are hopefully in the details.

  • faster better AF
  • better more reliant tracking AF
  • faster startup time
  • silent mode with burst and flash
  • better screen
  • better EVF
  • no more interlacing lines when using really fast electronic shutter speeds
  • faster image transfer by WiFi
None of those are meaningful advantages for me, for my uses of my M kit.

Ah thanks, small detail I overlooked, guess it's also Sigma then.

Oh crap those Sigmas are also for full frame right? Thats bad.
The Sigmas are the same APS-C line that exists for other mirrorless mounts. That's good and bad - good in that they're proven and very good; bad in that the primes are not exactly small and so undermine the 'small kit' goal to a degree.

I have been reasonably impressed by my wife's R50, but I'm not sure this R50V really hits the mark as a video-centric option. Even if they add the cropped 4k60 available in the R10, it seems to lag behind the ZV-E10/II. It's basically a 4k30 body, which seems a bit lackluster in the current landscape.

One of the main features I requested Canon to include in the next R5m2 firmware update is Slow & Fast Motion. If this new camera is getting it, I suspect the R1/R5m2 will as well — which may be why they’re taking longer to roll the firmware out than anticipated.

I similar idea entered my mind, but since I already have an R8, which I don't want to sell, the R50V would add a more compact option for travel and casual use, but it's not worth the €2000+ it would cost to replace the M gear. I also want fewer items in my photo gear cabinet, not the same number, but of better quality :)

Thankfully the R8 exists and I already have one, which prevents a lot of GAS when Canon announces nicely compact APS-C bodies :)

^^This.

Personally, I use my M6II much less now, because the R8 has become my usual travel camera. When I take an M kit, it's now usually the full spectrum M6 that I bring along with the R8.

Using the "Protelyte.com" website and comparing the dimensions M6mk2 vs R50, these reported dimimsions do very well at replacing the M6 and incorporating the RF mount. Looking forward to reviewing the details and manual.

Since when can we use Sigma with RF?
For RF-S I meant this one
There is a 10-18/2.8 and 4 primes for RF-S as well.

I didn't make pixel peeping on the 18-50/2.8 yet, but at a first glance it looks really good and the AF is faster and snappier than some Canon STMs.
And the form factor is great for an APS-C f/2.8 zoom.

Edit: And you can use those on a FF EOS R bodies in APS-C mode as well.

Why should Canon always "cripple" something? Why is something "crippled" at all?

If I did read your post right, I interpret some sarcasm into it. I hope I am right.
So maybe I'm opening a can of worms here that doesn't even exist.

But maybe people should start thinking about the use of some words, that might be critical.
Not directly addressed to you, Bonich, and no accuse, but in general I think the whole world would be a lot better, if we start to be more polite again.

I know, I do a lot of that "Canon is doomed" stuff as well, but IMO "doomed" is something else than "crippled".
But maybe I should rethink my point of view as well.

Sorry for the rant, but I had to let that out.
