That shouldn't come as any surprise if it is the entry level Rebel.

In fact, it's kind of awesome that the cheapest Rebel will have an 18 mp sensor. People on this forum love to look at the glass half empty, but really, I'm impressed with how much camera you can buy with not much money.

Looks actually pretty similar to the 550D / T2i.... my camera has just gone up in value, it's current again ;-)

I'm impressed with how much camera you can buy with not much money.

I see your point but you can do that now even without this camera. The market is already flooded with several great 18MP bodies as it is. For 250-600 bucks you can get just about any camera you want, even getting more features for your buck than this new entry level for less $$$.

We really don't need yet another boring 18MP camera from Canon, I am becoming less and less impressed with Canon cameras. Get back to the old days when the sensors and camera bodies were revolutionary and state of the art and set the standard for other cameras rather than regurgitating the same 'ole same 'ole over and over again.

Makes one wonder what Canon is thinking....

So it's a 60D with less external control and no pentaprism in a cheaper housing. Obviously this isn't even close to revolutionary in terms of technology or performance. However, it could have an insanely low price. That would be revolutionary enough to make it worth Canon's while.

I expect as much from Canon, they make these occasional 'safe' marketing moves, it's par for the course. I'm sure it will come in at a very low retail and will sell. True, we here just see it as a rebranding of the T2i but this may be part of a larger plan to reorganize the entire lineup. I'm waiting for the non consumer show announcements myself.

It is a replacement for the T3 (which was basically a modernized XT).

Surely you did not think they would continue selling the T3 indefinitely (and yes, people do buy them).

That's what I was thinking... the t2i has just been redesigned with a new a new name. Maybe different size... but it isn't anything new... unless I'm missing something. Toy camera DOESN'T COUNT!
