Cue the ‘Canon calls this an NAB announcement?!?’ derision.

Meanwhile, Canon will probably sell plenty of these. They would not keep releasing such kits otherwise.

Yep, this and a broadcast lens.

I don't know who's buying them, but someone is.

I am surprised that this doesn’t include a microphone. The internal microphone is not great, and they even show some lady using a hotshoe mic with this. Seems like an oversight, especially when the other R50 “Content Creator Kit” comes with one.

They have a standalone (no body) kit that includes the tripod grip, remote and DM-E100 microphone with dead cat.

I have the DM-100, which is an older but better version for camcorders (longer barrel for better directional sensitivity, switchable between shotgun mode and 90° or 120° stereo, and transmits the audio via the hotshoe not a cord). That mic is one reason I got the HF G60 instead of the newer G70 as a 4K camcorder – for some reason with the G70, Canon dropped the mini-hotshoe that takes the DM-100 mic (and the little VL-5 light) that had been on the series since the G10. The other reason was that the G60 has the better 1" sensor (the G50 and G70 have a 1/2.3" sensor, and for indoor use I wanted the larger sensor).

Yeah, but it is just weird to me that their "Content Creator Kit" comes with the R50 camera body, DM-E100 microphone, HG-BTR100 grip, and an RF-S 18-45 and sells for $799, but the newly launched "Video Creator Kit" at $999 replaces the 18-45 with a 10-18, and drops the microphone.

Seems like it is a better deal to get the Content Creator Kit, and buy the 10-18mm separately for $329, for a total of $1128. For $129 more, you get the mic ($109) and the 18-45mm ($299).

Nice bundle.
I only wish they had one with the Canon DM-E1D Stereo Microphone.
Canon could also use a "vlog" ILC with capable built-in mics like the Powershot V10 has.
I am currently looking for a microphone for filming school plays and such. Would/ could you recommend it? Or any other available microphone?

I use the cheapest Røde mic, and that is already a massive improvement over the built-in mics. So anything you pick will be better than the body alone :)

The reviews of the DM-E1D I’ve seen are mostly positive, the main sticking point is the relatively low resolution compared to other products in that price range. But all the competitors require a bunch of wires and/or syncing in post.

The DM E1D is very convenient. No wires just plug it in and get vastly better sound. Just used it to record ambient sounds for the recent solar eclipse with the R8 and 10-20mm.
