It’s not the name, it’s knowing what’s behind the name and the technology involved. If you are not interested in how things work but only in what they can do, fine. But, others actually like to understand and learn. It is fairly useless information.
All that matters is the performance of the camera not whatever they happen to name their image processor.
Since the Digic X is now considered an abstract system as some have stated,I suppose therein lies my point that marketing has utterly failed and Canon is seriously doing themselves a disservice.Actually canon officially stated during release of R6mk2 that the digic X in the R6mk2 and in R3 is different and more advanced than the one in the previous cameras. That allowed better AF, Less overheating and some other benefits.
But I did expected totally new chip, and not the one used 2 years ago. Or maybe they have made new improvements and they will share it with press release like they did with R6mk2
The ‘layman’ isn’t the target market for the R1.Since the Digic X is now considered an abstract system as some have stated,I suppose therein lies my point that marketing has utterly failed and Canon is seriously doing themselves a disservice.
To the layman these processors are all the same since the naming convention presents it as such and therefore misconstrue the notion that new flagship product is using the same processor as things from 4 years ago or are of the same cloth as entry level products.

Very true! That's mePeople who purchase the R1 are not the normal consumers though.
These are people that will spend the 7 or 8,000 on a R1 will do so because they want the reliability, AF, performance, and the massive chunk of amperage to drive those nasty big whites as fast as possible.
Oh and be able to wedge the camera under the car when you need to replace a tire.
they won't care if it had one, 2 or even 10 DIGIC's inside. as long as it does the job.

Let me introduce you to Sony influencers, who worship spec sheets!Who cares what name is stuck on a processor if the camera does the business? The business is what sells products in this segment.[...]
By that logic then why have naming conventions and marketing at all? After all the ones who would buy this camera would obviously be of such sophistication that they would know better than any as to whether they should buy it. Canon can save a boat load of marketing expense and forego having to wax poetics on its product as there is no point in trying to influence buyers who are in the pinnacle of the know.People who purchase the R1 are not the normal consumers though.

I hope you're not employed in the marketing department of a company I have shares in.By that logic then why have naming conventions and marketing at all? They never tell you that though. It’s not the name, it’s knowing what’s behind the name and the technology involved.
Especially for the primary target crowd, who often shoot JPGs and have deadlines measured in Minutes, not hours or Days. Something in camera that came even close to a DXO or Topaz deniose performance would get a lot of use.So you jumped ship? And why would you still atay here.
I jumped back from the Sony ship, I'm not gonna waste amymore time with a company that treats their flagship like shit.
Yea, I would say R3 R6ii's DIGIC X is at least a gen 1.5.
Better SOCC image is the way, not wasting time in post-processing is great for anyone, regardless is newbie or veteran.
However, the current R7 has a higher through put (32.5mp x 30 fps = 975mb/s).The current crop of Digic X tops out at approximately 900MP/s at 12-bit. The R3, R5 and R7 all have roughly the same throughput limitation, which is something that I hope will get improved in the R1/R5II.
A larger buffer and faster storage would be nice a well, but is secondary for me.
Don't forget the 1.16x to go from 12-bit to 14-bit, that would make it 1.75x.However, the current R7 has a higher through put (32.5mp x 30 fps = 975mb/s).
The rumoured R5ii specs suggest 45mp x 30fps…so that would indicate a throughput of 1350 mb/s. Which is 1.5x the previous model….oh look…the old maths formula for the next gen camera are true for the R series too!
However, the 40 fps fror the R7, R6ii and R8 is only achievable using the electronic shutter at 12bit. So the max throughput is at 12 bit.Don't forget the 1.16x to go from 12-bit to 14-bit, that would make it 1.75x.
