Keep in mind this is just research. this in no way means we are going to see this technology on an R1, or a Canon camera coming out soon.

Maybe not this technology, but if the R1’s rumored 0.8 ms readout speed is true, Canon has done something to achieve a 7-fold faster readout than the R3 and a 5-fold faster readout than other stacked sensors on the market.

Yes I just know in the past, people have run with patent applications thinking they are going to see it in a camera tomorrow. then they got all upset when it didn't happen.
