Canon RF 50mm f/1.2L USM II on the Horizon?

And this is why I wrote "for many", and not for everybody! ;)
During my active years, I also got a new phone once a year, as a work-tool. But this is a fully different case, when you must have a phone for business.
But honestly, is there really a compelling reason to replace an Iphone 15 with a model 16? For video and photo, ok. But for business?
Not really, but if it's use it or lose it money, I may as well. It's a perk, my job doesn't own the device and I certainly don't need any particularly high end features for my job duties.

While I loathe to take photos with my phone, I do have to admit that the progress of phone photography has been wild and I can totally see as the photographic needs of the vast majority of people can be fulfilled by the camera(s) in modern phones.

The fact that one pretty much needs a phone nowadays to function in our society compounds the issue for camera manufacturers. I guess the only saving grace for them nowadays is the rise of the content creator role / profession (?)...
I think that the "soccer mom" that used to buy a entry level 2-zoom kit is well and truly lost to phones now. We (as in photography aficionados and professionals) aren't, but we're mostly getting old

Smart phones have effectively killed the point and shoot market, and the ILC market has also contracted considerably. I assume that's why Canon is trying to make a harder push into the 'hybrid' market as of late. That's where the younger crowd is and probably where they see the most potential growth. Whether or not that push is seeing success, I don't know. The impression I get is the younger crowd does seem to gravitate more towards the other brands, but I'm not privy to the actual sales figures

I tried an experiment with taking many cellphone photos then combining them in photoshop. Even trying like that, it's not possible to create anything really suitable for printing, but most people are only sharing on social media.

Thanks! Round 2 of tongue cancer surgery. Find out in 2 weeks if a cure or need more. Much better recovery than round 1 which is good :)
Snorkelling (video/photo) with humpback whales and their calves in Aitutaki in 4 weeks so need to be ready for that!

Agreed phone photos are ok only if viewed on phone screens for me. Drone photos are similar apart maybe from the main 4/3rd sensor of the Mavic 4 Pro.
But we care about our photos so we care about composition / story but also about quality and technique.
Vast majority of people care about likes or want to share with family / friends. Nothing bad with that per se, just different approaches

I don't think we'll see more of them but the price difference means the 200-800 is definitely not a replacement!
The pricing is close if you end up buying both the 600/11 and 800/11 for some framing flexibility. The 600/11 is $879 and the 800/11 is $1099 right now, which totals to $1978, and the 200-800 is $2099.

Of course, if someone just wants a 800mm f/11 and nothing else, then sure, but I am not sure how big that market is compared to someone who wants the flexibility of a zoom that goes to 800mm and 1/3-stop faster to boot.

For many people, the price difference between the zoom and the 800 is just huge.
That for many forum members $1000+ are rather insignificant doesn't apply to a vast majority of the population.
