Canon t4i = 7d price drop? videographers PoV

I use several t2i's equipped with a 17-40mm lens, 24 1.4, and the 11-16mm tokina. In my experience it is equal if not a fragment sharper than the 7d already. Need focus points? Not so much with an ultra wide glass at f8-f11.

My real question is; Should the t4i have 1080p WITH 60fps, with iso improvements and the gimmick swivel Lcd., more megapixels, ( MP haters will hate lol )- new DGIC processor?
Would the 60d and 7d go down in price greatly?
The t2i is already great, superb with some L glass. Imagine the t4i video quality with L glass.

And yes, the 7d is a nice little weather shielded tank**

t2i + L's = awesome sharpness.

Clearly they're struggling with the realization of how much can truly be changed in software.
I'm starting to think they should keep the 7d line as the 1dx little sister, make the 5d III the best hybrid (lacking AF pts, but good video for big MP), only to be out-flexed in video by the upcoming "4k" DSLR.
Perhaps there's room for a t4i oriented to stills and a txi or something that can shoot 2k or some other pro video gimmick, in the feather-weight body.

Canon has Panasonic beat in prettiness of colors, but the gh2 blows everything away in fine detail... The softness of Canon is part of the beauty, but I'd like to see some balance, still soft but the fine detail doesn't turn to garbage poop. Brick walls aren't as big of a problem as water...

Who knows, let's just hope they figured it out and don't charge $16k for it.

It's already evident that there is little to be gained from the 7d over the 600d and 60d so my guess it that they will be releasing a 7d mk2 or 8d this year.

But with the 650d probably coming out next month you might see drops in price of the 60d and 7d but i wouldn't hold your breath. They aren't in the same market at all, so you wouldn't be comparing them. I don't think the 7d didn't drop in price when the 600d came out so why would it now?

Even if it did drop i wouldn't expect much of a change. Here in japan they are still selling the 550d brand new for only $100 less then the 600d brand new.

I doubt the t4i will be so great for video. The video from the g1x looks maybe a bit sharper than the 7d or t2i's (and yes, they do appear to have virtually identical iq) but the aliasing seems as bad if not worse. And that's the same sensor (essentially) with a new chip.

What I don't get is why the 4k cine camera crops to APS-H! APS-C cropped to 16:9 is Super35 and that's comfortable for most videographers used to 35mm film! I am glad the c300 is APS-C. But if you're limited to EF mount lenses and want speed, the 5D is great because a borderline ultra-wide (24mm) is available at f1.4, which is awesome. The 14.5mm primo and 16mm ultra primes are expensive... Though the ultra-shallow focus on the 5D can be an issue. But APS-H is a strange middle ground... I want to use my f2.8 APS-C zooms and if I can't I want full frame so I can use a fast wide lens.

Canon, give me a $2,000 APS-C camera with a killer video mode with no binning, skipping, or aliasing--and maybe 10MP stills? And FAST. I will never buy another brand again. Until I can afford an Alexa.

I cannot answer your questions. However, I have a 60D and I can assure you that the swivel LCD is not a gimmick. I have pulled off very tricky shots using it. For video recording, it is helpful to have a screen that articulates.

Well on a steadicam its not really need as much as an external lcd, with out an external its not a gimmick I suppose.
The 60d has weird buttons, the t3i has a better feel, light weight, and the extra zoom.
I can see a t4i and 7d mark II coming out, but not a 70 D

The 7D can be bought (body only) from some places (like B&H) for around $1350.00. That's a sweet deal on an awesome camera. I can't imagine a T4i causing that much of a price drop to a semi-pro camera. Maybe if/when the new 5D "X" comes out, prices will stabalize some, but I imagine that the 7D and 5D2 will remain strong selling cameras even after any new cameras come out.

The 7D is over two years old and following the normal price reductions as it ages. There are different camera models to meet different needs of photographers. However, I really doubt that camera with the same sensor is sharper than another model with the same sensor. Individual bodies might have autofocus accuracy issues, but as a generic statement, I doubt it.

If you use smaller aperture zooms, certainly, all the bodies will give sharp images. But, as soon as you put on a wide aperture prime, you see that few lenses are perfectly matched to the body and almost all benefit from AFMA.

There won't be a price drop. There is a difference in markets for the t3i and the 7D. Depending on what you are photographing, the difference can be nullified, but that's like saying an old lady driving to/from church every week can be done in both a Corvette and a Ford Focus. Yes... it doesn't make a difference to her, but there are a greater amount of customers who do care about the differences.

Also, I have the 60D, and there are a few things I would like. I'd like bluetooth connectivity so I can connect to my phone and then upload a shot while on the go. But I don't believe any of the Canon DSLR's have that option, so I will be patient and wait.

I'd also like to see AF micro adjust return to the x0D line. I haven't had a severe case of getting a lens that the body doesn't work well with, but I'd still like to know that I have the best possible AF settings.

I love the size... I love the performance... I'd like to see more AF points, but it doesn't drive me crazy. I'd like the delete button to be relocated, but that's just being too picky.

I still always feel like I'm going to snap it off. Removable...or less rigid (360 degree rotation) would be great.
I too have found awesome ways to use the articulating screen, however, I'm not OK with the t3i losing the LCD sensor.

With ML it's quite a valuable button, adjusting focus without touching the cam, changing backlight brightness/white balance steps without entering a stupid menu...

Pure Genius.

I wish it would have 1080p @ 60fps, but the 1DX has 2 digic V processors and doesn't have it. It better have a decent auto-focusing system... it will surely have a large ISO performance difference.

I'm not sure what we're getting at here. Yes, for an individual like the OP, the 7D might not make a big difference. For many other shooters, the 7D is a better choice. Since it's in a totally different market, the 7D's pricing isn't determined by the pricing of lesser bodies.

Its absolutely nesesary to have new Digic 5 processors! Otherwise I am not more interested in Canon cameras. Improvement in video quality a is really huge! More data wrangnling is just nessesary, nowadays DSLR video quality is truly horrendous! Chip can deliver way more better picture but it is still crippled with the lack of computational power and slow speed writing memories. Damn they are selling you 1080p cameras which can hardly make at least 720p in real resolution! And dont forget we are still talking about 8 bit color world!!! What about 10, 12 or more bits? Or RAW video? Or 120 fps in HD?
