Canon to announce ‘major’ new firmware for the EOS R1 & EOS R5 Mark II ahead of CP+

A "major" update is a "New" feature and not minor bug fixes or an added minor fps or display overlay. CR is beginning to have 95% copy and repost from other rumor sites and very little actual Canon stuff. Whats up with that admin?

Gosh. Well - that works. And yes, with the default button config only. But actually I just realised the exposure comp button in the top does the same thing. Pressed it by mistake and realised. I never use it as it’s not reassignable and I never use exposure comp. So thanks! Your solution helped me find a better one!

You're showing a R5 menu, the option is only available on R5ii and R1, the two cameras this thread is talking about.

I have another one: being able to assign “measure flicker frequency, enable HFAF, adjust shutterspeed” to a single button. Having to go multiple levels deep into the menu (even with My Menu) and having to click OK 3 times is unnecessarily tedious.
I found out that lights from the same brand, but different models use very different dimming frequencies

I know firmware can't fix it.
But am I the only R5 II user getting mad at that f*****g dioptre adjustment whenever I put on gloves in cold weather?
Same issue for most R bodies.
Why is there no way to keep it locked unless using glue (that's what I do)?
Why not imitate the Leica SL series, for instance? You adjust, push the button back in, et voila!

You need to upgrade your R5 II to an R1, where the diopter dial must be pulled out to unlock it. Unfortunately, that’s a somewhat costly firmware upgrade.

That is definitely a costly firmware upgrade! Hopefully in the future Canon makes the lockable diopter dial available on the R5 series.

The cost is not the issue, but my carrying mode. Peakdesign clips on each backpack strap. Each with a camera, right hand: RF 100-500, left hand: Leica M +35mm or EOS (to be defined + 15-35)
Otherwise, I would "long ago" have been an R3
owner, and have bought an R1 , despite its unusable horrible only 24MP.I'm quite happy with 45MP, but I wouldn't say I need them.
But I miss the R3/R1 ergonomics, to me, they matter much more than a few MP more...
And presently, good old 3M have excellent adhesives...also for this stupid stills/video switch.
Yet, the R5 II is a great camera!
Edit: I forgot! The R1's world best EVF! This is a feature that really matters!

I don't see the issue, I set it and forget it. Why do you keep needing to adjust and why are you fingers always near it that it loses its place?

"Major" is a weird concept for Canon after that they suggested that a full number firmware upgrade (2.0.0) for the R5 should have new features when it had very minor additions.
"Simple" (users always think that they are simple to implement) things like removing 30minute recording time, optional eShutter rates, eShutter sound, 14 bit eShutter with reduced burst rate, high res mode with raw output files, rate button remappability, etc would have been nice.
That said, the R5ii was available ~6 months later.
