My 5D with a 24-70 F2.8 II fell off a bed last week. The housing on the lens is cracked and the body seems to be okay.

If I push the housing back to close the crack, the lens will focus. Image, at least of the back screen (including 100% mag) seems okay. I have not had a change to review this on my computer.

Any idea how much a CPS repair will cost (even rough estimate is okay),

Between $200 and $300.

The way it works in the USA is they won't even give you a rough quote over the phone you have to send it in for a free evaluation, most repairs of this nature seem to fall into a 'fixed price' scheme though nobody seems to know what those fixed prices actually are. After they have received it and looked at it they will email you a quote, if you OK that and pay for it they will fix it and post it back to you, if you decline the repair they will post it back anyway. You have at least three months or sometimes six months to check the lens for good working order, decentering, sharpness etc during which time additional work is free.

My experiences with Canon repairs have all been very satisfactory, they have a new computerized system in place that constantly updates your repair number with where in the process your repair is.

They have flat rate repairs depending on the damage and what must be replaced. For example, they may see internal damage to the AF motor, even though it runs, if they see damage, it gets replaced. Your lens should come back as good as new.

I'd expect between 300 and 400, but its just based on what I've heard for this type of damage, and may be more or less. Just replacing the housing is not a big deal, its any internal damage that runs up the labor.
