Since this is the rumors section, I wonder if Canon had and then extended this great sale on lenses, flashes, etc. to increase our commitment to Canon's DSLR line. The immediate need to increase our investment in Canon is because Canon does not have a new full-frame model that will match-up in megapixel marketing to Nikon's (and Sony's) new full frame cameras using Sony's new 36 megapixel sensor such as the forthcoming Nikon D800.
Canon's short lens-mount to sensor distance allows Canon EOS bodies to accept several other manufacturer's lenses but the opposite applies to putting a Canon lens on most other DSLR's since they have longer lens-mount to sensor distance.
I hope I am wrong because I bought two Canon lenses during the sale.
The debate about if more megapixels is important to anyone but the marketing department and a minority of photographers is a discussion for another thread entirely.
