Looks like they put it to the test more than the Nikon D800. TONS of pictures at ISO 12,800 to 50,000. They didn't push the Nikon that hard. Results seem excellent up to 12800 and good at 25000. Still holding back judgment till I get some nice looking raw files with no noise reduction posted.

Thanks for the link, I had not visited DPR yet today.

The images do look like more real world images. Based on my images taken over the past four years with my 5D MK II, it looks like a upgrade of one to two high ISO stops. However, it also obvious that the DR goes to pot at very high ISO's, (same for all ff bodies), so exposures need to be perfect.

One of the 25600 images shows this pretty well, with a lot of noise from being maybe just a tiny bit overexposed.

I don't expect a miracle to happen, but if I get one stop or more faster in low light, I'll make good use of it. Getting just the right exposure in low light is something that comes with experience and lots of use of a given body. Pulling down the exposure in post a slight amount usually helps at the highest ISO's.

I'll get a chance to try my own next week.

Holy Crap, i downloaded image number 1829150/BK6A9683, the one with the castle shot at 51K ISO... I printed that as is, no changes to my Epson 1900 at a modest 8.5x11 print... you can see almost no noise except the right side where you see blue sky... And even that you have to look for it. I dont know what in camera NR there was, there was no NR on my end, but the image was crisp, clean, and if the rest of the ISO's get cleaner from this, this can be a game changer. Yes, i know, print 11x14 or even 13x19 i'm sure you will see more noise in the sky, but all things in consideration, turn it black and white, print 30x40 on canvas as 51K, no one will be the wiser... This can be huge for wedding photogs.

I agree, if you turned that b&w it's totally usable. Although it's a high contrast scene, no delicate skin tones going on. That's not a castle btw, it's Westminster Abbey :)

Oh thanks for the clarification... my British wife will no undoubtedly punch my arm when she hears that. haha. =) I've personally only been there once (the UK) and we didn't even go though london, just visited newcastle. I told her our next trip we're going to london. ;) These photos are very usable in certain situations... It opens a new world of opportunities...

I took a high iso picture today - was iso400, which I guess is about the top of the range for 95% of pictures - those 'real life' pictures represent just one extreme segment. On Wednesday I shot nearly 1k at iso50.

How about some real life comparisons between iso 100 and 400??

Hi Brian. Why would you shoot at ISO 50? That's not a native ISO, is it? Are there advantages in terms of retaining highlight detail?

I post ugly real world shots that people really take when they first get a camera. You know - you take a shot of the wife with no makeup, pets, a rock, etc.. - ha, ha.

All unprocessed and you can click to download the JPEG's

http://www.ronmartblog.com/2012/03/canon-5d-mark-iii-first-thoughtswow.html

ZERO post-processing - these are in-camera JPEG's. This is as real world as it gets and I'm impressed.

I did find ISO 50 to be a little underexposed in the image despite the meter reading an accurate exposure. I had done shots from 100 - 25600 the same way so this was an anomoly unique to ISO 50. The quality was acceptable though

I am saving for the 5DM3 but I will be happy if the pictures come close to these D800 samples:
http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1097553

incredible detail. Wow.

Another set of flat, lifeless D800 images. Where's the color and contrast?

With D800's DR of 14+ and color depth of 25+, highest ever, you can process the raw anyway you want. D800 is simply a better equipped tool for photography given its high DR, color depth, and ISO performance.

In comparison, the new Canons make good JPGs. How the mighty has fallen.
