I see nothing wrong with the foot it comes with -- can anyone explain why one would take off the OEM and replace it with AM, that doesn't seem to do anything different?? Curious, is all?

What genre do you guys use this type of lens for? I'm having a hard time imagining what I would do with it. At that price, I assume there is something it excels at?

I prefer to zoom with my feet, but sometimes that's just not possible. A jet pack is out of my (financial) reach, and Canon's affordable full frame telephoto lenses are flawed by IQ and/or a rotating front element. I'm glad I stretched to the excellent 70-300L, having ruled out the original 100-400 L because of its IS. I now have buyer's remorse, I'm sure that this new 100-400 L II would be a much better option.

It is also the only Canon telephoto zoom to have the reach at the price. Only by going to the 400/5.6 L prime, using a teleconverter, or possibly third party alternative can a lense achieve comparable shots.

I'm looking forward to seeing more about this. It won't cure my buyer's remorse...
